| The General G of K chapter 1 . 10/14/2012 This was so good! Like so, so good. I think there's this tendancy in firefly fics to polarize Mal as either the jokey captain or the hardened captain. There's rarely ever a good balance. You, however, managed to add this tangible layer of humanity to him. And the format worked so well, too. I think my favorite sections had to be envy and pride. I loved the comparison of glory to copper for him. I don't know if you meant to or not but it reminded me of the metallic taste of blood and I loved that. That glory shone bright, but it required a blood sacrifice. Either way well done. Adding this to my favorites. The General |
| KMacD chapter 1 . 6/7/2012 Best Firefly fic I've read. I usually read the Mal/Inara fics and I do enjoy a little romance for them both. But Mal's voice in this is so strong and so difinatively Mal! Couldn't have been better. |

I always found that the most heartbreaking aspect of the World Wars and such...the fantasy of glory, and then the shock of reality. You encapsulated completely Mal's character, added believable depth to him, and I'm so glad I found this :) |
