| Reviews for It's a Romantic Conquest, Haruhi Chan! |

Esme chapter 25 . 10/1 So desperate for Haruhi fic that I turned to in this the year of our lord 2020 and what do I find, among walls of text and 'yaoi' and terrible takes? A great fic for my favourite pairing. It was such a ride from beginning to end, and well worth the wait to see how the writing developed! I love how it starts off fairly normal-seeming, but you go so deep into Haruhi and Kyon's relationship and why it can't work as a romance that it really felt like another one of the novels. The characters feel so real! I loved how you developed the Kyon/Koizumi romance as something that goes beyond just a 'they'd be cute' and made Kyon's changing feelings for Koizumi a part of his character. He's not just falling for his best source of expospeak, he's slowly unpicking the web of assumptions and prejudices that had him dating Haruhi when he knew it wouldn't work and repressing his feelings for Koizumi when he knew he was much more than just an annoyance. It would have been easy to have Kyon just give in after Koizumi's sacrifice, but it's so much more meaningful for him to wait…he does fall in love with Koizumi, but this doc makes it so clear that it's not just a 'oh he saved me so now I love him', it's that Kyon cared about Koizumi before, and now that he knows Koizumi does care about him genuinely, he's no longer (consciously) afraid of starting to care in return 3 and the ending…the ambiguity suits it, I think. Maybe Kyon hasn't done the unpacking necessary to fully recognize that he's one of those bisexuals, but he finally—after putting his relationship with Haruhi to bed—gives Koizumi the most honest affection be can. I love it! They really feel like they're high schoolers in love, with all the confusion and awkwardness and repression that entails. Thank you! Just typing this, now, I want to reread…Haruhi makes Kyon's life exciting, but they can't communicate well enough to be together for the long term. Mikuru charms him, but she's too unwilling to sacrifice her work for a relationship. Yuki protects him, but like Haruhi, she's draining on her own for hours at a time. Of all the gang, Itsuki is the one Kyon spends the most time with and he's the one Kyon can get along with most easily. They're on the same wavelength 3 |

mirujo chapter 1 . 8/24/2015 I've already laughed twice just in this first chapter, this is great! The obvious-yet-not-obvious ItsuKyon was good too. Someone on LiveJournal rec'd me this fic, I'm glad they did! |

catauragay chapter 4 . 6/27/2014 Romantic couples should never get together right away. That makes it boring. |
RinnyTheOrange chapter 9 . 6/19/2014 I bet the blue haired girl was the main character in lucky star (can never remember her name, link it starts with a "k" ) |
QuatroPuppy chapter 25 . 6/5/2014 I don't know if there's much point in reviewing so long after completion but since I only just got into this fandom... you get the idea. I just wanted to say that was so amazing. Almost perfect. I felt like it fit in perfectly with the original, what with the touches of philosophy, Kyon's sarcasm and all. It was long and the romance was gradual but not ridiculously angsty and by the time it finished I felt very satisfied. |
kapslar chapter 25 . 10/22/2013 I think this was done very, very well. Sadly I think it slipped towards out-of-character-ness in the Sailor Moon and ghost-trauma conversations, and when Haruhi got mad at Kyon. I also think Itsuki stuttered too much at the time of his confession (I think in real life, one would pause a lot in embarrassment rather than stutter, but once you get the initial confession out you can talk more normally). I thought it was really great just how much it took for Itsuki to confess, I kept expecting it to happen sooner but you did it really well. Another general tip I have is that the dialogue and inner monologue tends to go on too long without a description of the background, the reader loses track of how much time is passing or where exactly they are. Anyway, I stayed up all night just reading this fanfiction of yours. Now I'm off to see if you have any others. It's probably too much to expect that you'd still be willing to write for Suzumiya, but a man can dream I suppose… Thanks so much for the fic. |
alycat63 chapter 7 . 10/14/2013 Cool story |
