This was a great read. I would love more in this universe - the Sophie story got explained and then it was suddenly over! I want to know how this affects their relationship going forward, and how Olivia reacts to not being an instant fix for all of Alex's wounds (or wound-causing propensities, as the case may be). I know you wrote this forever ago, but it's a well-crafted universe that fascinates me. Nice work!

So I'm like, a year and a half behind on this, but whatever. This story was, as the others said, really beautiful. I enjoy all of your work, but this one in particular stuck with me.

So, I read this over a year ago, and I'm just realizing I never reviewed it. I should have.

The idea that Alex would blame herself that much isn't really that far-fetched. Not from what we see of her on the show. She cares, she just goes out of her way not to show it. Which you captured very well.

I think what I like most is how you handled it. The injuries that Alex forces herself to endure, you didn't make light of them. She owned them, and she wasn't ashamed of them. They were just /hers/.

And in the playfullness of the rest of it, when Olivia was slightly more submissive than Alex, that's not something that a lot of people write. So, go you for writing outside the box. :)

Interesting story but confusing. While the current running through the story is guilt, you never come through with what it is Alex feels guilty for. She says her girlfriend was attacked and killed and it was her faulty - Why was does she feel its her fault, especially to the extent that she self-mutilates. Also, when does this assault take place - Alex says two years ago, so is this before she joins the DA's office. Alex is obviously not new to SVU because Olivia states, "do you know how long I've been in love with you", indicating a time longer than a few months. If it were to have happened during her time at the DA's office, Olivia would already have known about it, so it would be common knowledge - i.e., an assault murder of a gay ADA's lover would have been big news and surely would have been known throughout law enforcement, if not the city at large, even if Alex weren't assigned to the SVU at the time. And, if this happened prior to her being an ADA, again what was she doing that she would take blame for bringing about such hideous circumstances. And lastly, the catalyst for this 'confession' to Olivia are the scratches down Alex's back. But, how does Liv manage to run scratches down Alex's back when you purposely state that Alex takes her from behind, face-down on the bed, and with Liv clutching the bedclothes? This story has a unique perspective and great potential, but needs to more continuity and a more coherent payoff (explanation); for me, the ending is much too pat.

I really liked this story. I've read it more than once. I like the punishment angle that Alex takes and the sexiness of her at the same time if that makes any sense
