I'm a historical freak, and I think that was beautiful.

This story was really good, and kind of sad. Poor Daniel.

Good story! I am a fan of Civil War stories, so I just had to read this.

Since you noted right away that your soldier character was going to die, and probably soon, maybe you could put in some background on him so the reader would get to know him a little more. Was he rich or poor? Farm or town? What were his parents/siblings like? What were his personal feelings about slavery? What did he hope to do in his role in the war (besides kill Yankees, what were his deeper feelings?) These are the things that will make a reader sad when the character is killed. So it would be good to add more detail.

Well done...I could feel walking beside Daniel all the way thru the field and up over the final small wall.

it's really, reallly good, but it makes me sad... those men were quite literally slaughtered that day... so many, so young...

Man. You just had to kill him in the end. Of course, that was the point of the story. So yeah.

Either way, WOW! Deep and amazing-though short. As one could put it, 'Short but deep.' I liked how in the ending how it was just BANG kind of ending. Like WHAM that's it. No fancy words, just simply:

'Then, Daniel Sanderson died.' WHAM!

Great story, I felt like I was in the thick of the battle. I can't wait for your next story. It almost sounds like you were there in the Civil War.
