You’ve filled in the blanks so beautifully. I understand your reasons for ending it here, but if you ever write any other bits of their story, I’d love to read them.

Absolutely LOVED your story! I loved how you developed the emotional connection between Maria and the Captain that was missing in the movie. We had hints of it and when he bows to her and holds the door for her after the puppet show, you realize there is more to their relationship than was able to be developed in the limited time of the movie. Of course, the connection after Edelweiss and the even deeper one during the Landler are to follow, but your story gave a great bridge to get us there. The Baroness's words to her after the party made it clear she knew that deep feeling between the two had developed as well as Maria's admission to the Mother Abbess that when they looked at each other she could barely breath all hinted that there was a lot we did not see in the movie about their developing relationship.I think you did a wonderful job developing that special bond they had! You also developed grounds for Maria's actions of fleeing the situation when confronted by the Baroness. In your story, though Maria realized it really wasn't working, she still was holding on to the the hope that the Baroness would love the children, because she really only saw the marriage of the Baroness and the Captain as the only available option. I loved how you showed Maria's thoughts were definitely playing with how much she loved being in exactly the place she was and how it felt like family happiness to her, but she was stealing herself to needing to return in September. She really had never allowed herself to think any of the lasting things could actually be hers. Many others have developed the growing sexual tension in the time between the fight and the puppet show, but I think you have done an extraordinarily great job of developing the emotional tension and growing deep love. I'm glad that is what you focused on! LOVED it!

Una historia exquisitamente escrita en todos los aspectos, tanto a la hora de mantener fidelignamente a los personajes con su forma de ser , como por la forma de describir el acercamiento entre ambos, todo sin ser muy rápido, dándoles tiempo a conocerse de verdad. Magnificent. Really magnificent.
Stopping it where you did was perfect for the story, and the way the puppet show had been set up, with Georg's request of a performance gave everything, but particularly the final part of this chapter so much more gravitas.
The fact that Georg brought back the whistle before presenting the children with their gifts, and then asked Maria to get rid of it for him was great.

There was so much power to this story and even with the timeline you covered, there was so much between them, the beginnings of love very obvious, and it doesn't feel wrong not seeing any more of their relationship.
Well done.

Loved Elsa and Louisa's little spat over the corsage, and how that led to Georg defending Maria and the children's realisation about Elsa.
Maria and Georg's conversation was, once again, wonderful. There is so much respect and love between them, even though we haven't even had the puppet show yet, and the turmoil they are both going through is so clear.

Love how their conversation brought fears Maria couldn't voice to the surface, simply by Georg asking about the Abbey. The fact that though he can't see her as a nun, but wishes her happiness is lovely, and Maria reflections were great; especially the line about her time as governess helping her in some way, if at all.
Love how running back to the house in the rain with Georg's jacket gave her the final piece of inspiration she needed for her dress. And that Georg went up to see her and was comforted once again. The 'keep the faith' is beautiful on it's own just from her, but the fact that it has a connection to Agathe makes everything much more powerful.

Love Georg's request when he showed the children the puppet show; very unique, and how despite Maria's awkwardness, she quickly worked out what to do.
The moment on the mountain was wonderful. Maria's idea for 'practical geography lessons' was genius and Georg admitting he felt lost and out of place was deep, and the way he jumped in to play with the boys was great.
Maria letting her guard down was also lovely, and the way she said 'home' before 'the villa' when all the children were napping says a lot.

This was brilliant!
In between diving into the emotions and circumstances of everyone, we've set up for the puppet show. I expected there would be something about that here, but didn't expect Elsa's outfit for the party that hasn't even been arranged yet, or Maria's dress. Certainly not both.
That one line about Max and the St. Ignatius Choir makes Elsa's one line about it in the film so much more powerful, the moment when Maria was all alone with the drunk and Georg stepped in does indeed, as Frau Schmidt said, show what she has done for the family, and Maria's line about only yelling at him was awesome.

Like before, this chapter covered so much seemingly effortlessly.
Love how despite Maria seeing fear in Georg she was determined to find out if he was okay, and then comfort him. The way he told her that it was exactly what he needed was beautiful.
And then asking everyone out to town. Max's quips were awesome, Marta's reactions were wonderful and Elsa's observation was the perfect foreshadowing of what will come.

Once again, marvellous.
Love how Maria got a hint when she went to tell Georg they were going shopping; a hint that she used for her present rather than the children's.
Getting Georg the model schooner was perfect, and the fact that he put it right there on the bookshelf says a lot. Max and Elsa's presents were also great, and the point about that being the most restrained part of the day was very interesting.
And of course, love how Georg made it very clear that she didn't simply work there when Maria gave him his gift.

Really enjoyed the way this chapter flowed from one subject to another, so by the end it was completely different to where we started.
Love Maria's suggestion on gifts for their father and how quickly the children all agreed with it. Her comforting and looking after Gretl was wonderful, and I loved how even though it was only an upset stomach, all the children immediately ran and told their father as soon as they saw him, and that he responded.

Love how their recreation time is spent together, yet there are multiple activities going on, and how Georg came to see them, helping Brigitta before joining them altogether.
Maria handled Gretl's question perfectly and Georg's thoughts on her afterwards were brilliant, as was the comparison of the clay to this time in their lives.
And Maria wanting to use her salary to buy birthday presents for the children is absolutely wonderful.
