I liked the first version quite well, but I like the second even better. It provides a proper ending to the story. Drabbles don't require that, so the other version was fine. However, this seems like a complete short story because it goes "full circle". Nice!

Love your second thoughts, it gives it that complete feeling and yes we can all feel for Daniel's thoughts about Jack can't we. lol
