I am reading and enjoying this piece so much. I don’t know if you’re still reading reviews but I absolutely loved this chapter with the apology... I love that Hermione is teaching him how to interact with others (even though she’s awkward with others in her own way- that makes her perfect for the role of nudging Severus in the right direction). I love your Hermione and Severus so much. Back to reading.

I don't know if you still keep up with reading reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed this fic, and was quite surprised/impressed to learn that it was your first piece of fiction ever.

I was looking for a story in which student Hermione looks at Snape better than the boys do (which she canonically does) and gets her chance at getting to know him better (which she doesn’t), and well, this story delivered. Here, she lives up to her intelligent potential and sees through Snape’s persona of untrustworthy bastard, asking the right questions. I wasn’t looking for romance, though I didn’t mind the bit there was (that first PE lesson was awkward though).

Overall, after reading both Phoenix HBP and ditto DH that is, I love your take on things and you’ve managed very well to take canon (including existing dialogues), take Hermione’s and Snape’s perspectives and really add interesting new things to the story by exploiting those aspects that canon didn’t really go into, like the arithmancy or Hermione’s very very thorough preparation, background characters, etc (only weird thing is that Hermione says/thinks nothing about (the death of) her Muggle Studies teacher). Canonically, Snape doesn’t know about the Horcruxes, but he also knows enough about Voldemort and Dark Magic that he could have guessed it himself. Maybe he did only pretend to Dumbledore he didn’t know…
Oh, and I agree Snape’s knowledge and books about Dark Arts must have come from Eileen.

Aaaand there's the conversation in which Snape uses his Patronus to show Dumbledore he still loves Lily - this is why Dumbledore can't have seen Snape's Patronus before this moment, so Snape can't have sent him one in chapter 8.

It would have been priceless, and I do mean epic, if Hermione had pushed the sugar bowl in his direction at this point.

Snape sent Dumbledore a Patronus - so, you place the conversation about Harry having to let Voldemort kill him before this early moment in 6th year. Okay.

I like that he went to the playground, I can see him do that.

No wonder he dislikes Slughorn; I got the impression Slughorn invited talented and pretty students to his club, but chose to overlook a certain ugly but brilliant student from his own house...

Why the Legilimency? Couldn't she just have put her memory into a pensieve?
