If only! I would have loved to see JKR have actually had adults do their jobs. The older I get the more judgment I have for all the adults in the series... how in the world did they let children get away with doing half the things they did. Anyway. Lovely story, thanks for sharing!

You know planting that diary was not one of Lucius's more brilliant moments because Voldemort would have killed him if knew he'd been that careless with the Horacrux even if he didn't actually know what it was. Also the fact that he put a weapon in the same castle that his son was in especially since wasn't planned well.

If wizards were normal, sensible, decent people it would surely happen like this.

Well done! Not sure Arthur Weasley would know what a Horcrux is (they're supposed to be very obscuee), but never mind. Also, they could try to place the secret of the Horcruxes under a Fidelius — that way the children couldn't talk…

Like I tell my husband, "If the detective / whoever paid that much attention to begin with and knew who it was as quickly as you there wouldn't be anything, but commercials for the next 45 mins." He usually just glares and continues watching to see if they figure it out. -sigh-

And with the adults all looking for the Horcruxes then Riddle would be dead faster and there would not be 7 books. wow. You whittled that down nicely. lol.

You it kinda implied that the horcruxes are very top secret and Dumbledore removed the information and books from library after he became headmaster and also Hogwarts is the first wizarding school so the information regarding horcrux not be known
And if it known by aurors or many people Voldemort would have used another means to attend immortality cause in sixth book Dumbledore said that he knew Voldemort is immortal but doesn't know how until the diary which also implied that there are various methods.

Horcruxes are very dark, very rare magic. Lucius Malfoy didn't know what it was. Arthur would have no idea, none at all.

This was really good, wouldnt really change things in the long run though. Dumbles knew for years that je had horcruxes. He suspected even before 2nd year and he still did fuck all.
