I'm seeing a lot of parallel and contrasts with Sakumo here, jesus christ: Kills teammate instead of saving them, still goes through suicidal thoughts, but this time self-inflicted and and gets reputation increases instead of decrease, and bless-fully gets saved in time.
The feels man.

Also like the whole Ibiki thing, I thought that Iruka subconsciously wanted to be saved too.

That was truly moving, especially seeing Iruka quietly prepare for his suicide. He's really just too thoughtful. In canon, he's just a tad too overprotective for my complete liking, but he's a great character and I love how you've done him justice here.
