TortoisetheStoryteller chapter 1 . 1/21/2016 This is a beautiful picture of a patient with dementia, and how they still pick up on the most important things. Very touching. Thank you. |
meldahlie chapter 1 . 9/29/2014 This is a Rembrandt painting in words. I can't really say much more in its praise. |

Ocean's Nocturne of the COCA chapter 1 . 6/13/2011 This is just such a beautifully touching moment...I love all the little things you use to describe the dress, bit by bit! Very well written. :) |
rosebudmelissa chapter 1 . 2/7/2011 Fun story. I only wish we could have seen other peoples' reactions. |
Smoltenica chapter 1 . 4/20/2009 My, I don't think I ever reviewed this story, but I should have! I absolutely adore it- it's so beautiful, and just that slightest bit heartbreaking. You do write Jill wonderfully- her hesitance and eagerness, her deep love for Aslan, and her desire to tell her Gran about Aslan (who wouldn't, after they'd seen Him?). Hrm. All in all, a wonderful story. |
piccolabimba chapter 1 . 3/13/2009 I really like the analogy you made with 'becoming something new' after meeting the Lion. |
flicker-flare chapter 1 . 2/12/2009 I was first introduced to your work with "The Better Part" (I reviewed it under the penname Violin Ghost) and I'm going through your pieces quite steadily. To be perfectly honest, I never particularly liked Jill. I didn't hate her; I didn't love her; she was just always... there. But you gave her wonderful depth here, and her grandmother's knowing Aslan was a Lion was an especially nice touch. This was such a beautifully thoughtful piece; and I love your style of writing. |
asdfjkl chapter 1 . 2/9/2009 love it. thank you. |
Miniver chapter 1 . 2/3/2009 What really makes this story sing is how it embodies the idea that once Aslan breathes on someone, that person changes forever. It's the element that makes the second movie feel not quite right to me: the script shows the Pevensies hurting from the loss of Narnia, but for the most part there's little indication that Narnia is inside them now and forever. That's the factor that lifts Narnia above every "magic land" kids in books get to visit. In your story, Jill feels and shows this effect of having visited Narnia, and you also give a tantalizing hint that Gran has had some glimpse of that land of heart's desire. Really lovely, and filled with your usual vivid detail and warm characterization. |
WiseQueen chapter 1 . 11/17/2008 "one who is ever on the verge of drifting back and forth between this world and another" I think you are describing Gran very well. One moment she's quite with it, the next she is ... drifting. And what is the other world she is drifting towards? "“Wait, Gran,” she said, half-turning, “I never told you he was a—”" But she already knows ... Beautiful. |
