ninagayler chapter 11 . 11/24/2017 Interesting |
Shenaphira chapter 11 . 5/14/2017 Hey, wow, this is awesome. You know, I first read this story many years ago, and bookmarked it to read again, because I really enjoyed the merthur and the developed plot line. Recently I've been going back through my old favorites, and I noticed a subtext here that I hadn't the first time through: there are many parallels in your fic between magic and homosexuality. I won't quote too much of your own work at you, but particularly the second half of chapter 5, where Uther makes magic legal, and Merlin rejoices at finally being free to express himself, sections like that really convinced me of a deep connection between the two subjects. There were also other lines like: Merlin hesitates then, and Arthur realizes that at some point the warlock's fingers have stopped twisting in the bed sheets and are now twisting in his own. He's not sure how he missed that happening. "What will your father say?" Arthur shrugs, pulls his hand from Merlin's grip, and hauls himself to his feet. His eyes are sparkling and there's a small smile playing across his face, and he's more content than he's been in a long while. It feels good. "Let's go find out, shall we?" And: "Don't touch him," he says, a warning tone hiding just underneath his voice, and when Uther backs off he lowers his hand and his eyes fade back to blue. "And yes – he's been saving both me and Camelot since he arrived here." "He's been corrupting you." "He's been protecting me." And: "It's a part of me, father," Arthur replies softly, pausing only to look back over his shoulder at the King. Uther is gripping his sword with one hand, and anyone else wouldn't notice it. "Don't make me an exception to the rule." "I cannot execute you," Uther snaps in return, but despite his tone there's an underlying feeling of desperation. He is his father, after all. Arthur shrugs. "Then change the law." And wow that stuff is gay. In fact, it really reminds me of Warm Bodies, that TV show that likened zombies to members of the LGBTQ community. That kind of dual-plotline fascinates me. A lot of your fic seems really close to the celebratory experience of homosexuals when gay marriage was made legal throughout the US. But of course, this was written many years before that, and here is where I start having to reign in my theories because it may be that you didn't intend for your work to be read like this at all. So basically I'm commenting this because I want to know if this was intentional. I feel like it's so obvious to me now that I've noticed it that it couldn't NOT be intentional, and I really want to discuss it on my blog, but I also want to make sure that I'm not just crazy and you intended it to be read this way. So, please let me know! I would love to discuss this more. My email is . |

PeanutTree chapter 11 . 6/30/2010 Wow! I love the way the plot twisted and turned itself into the traditional myths, with some extras like Arthur's bond to Merlin. |
Home World Security chapter 11 . 5/1/2010 Good |
stasa chapter 11 . 12/7/2009 Wonderful story, I love how you make it a point to build the relationship and not skip onto the completion. People seem to have forgotten how to create a plot-line without destroying the story and succumbing to fanfic cliche. I'm very happy to see you are certainly not one of those people Very nicely written :) |
LunaNigra chapter 11 . 11/12/2009 I love the end, how it seems that his love to Merlin brings back the magic... Or some of it! Luna |

CrayonsPink chapter 11 . 11/3/2009 Great job! I really liked it. |
Eco Lin chapter 11 . 11/1/2009 This is, like one of, if not the best, Merlin story I've ever read. It's blood brilliant! By far the best "Arthur has magic" fic ever and this chapter was just an *sigh* amazing way to end things, for now. I'm hoping that Arthur gets his magic back, after all, the last part seems to hint at that. Anyway, I'm off to read the sequels. Cookies and brownies for your job very well done :D |
Black-Dranzer-1119 chapter 11 . 5/14/2009 Yays. That was awesomeness |
spoodle monkey chapter 11 . 11/27/2008 amazing story! i love the connection the two had- keep up the great work! |
myrmidryad chapter 11 . 11/26/2008 Holy hellfire, how did I manage to miss this? It's beautifully incredible, and I am totally in love with it. You write in a very captivating way, and the rhymes at the end of each chapter are beautiful. Are they lyrics or poems or what? I've been reading non-stope and have only just stopped smiling this last chapter, which is a sad one (smiled again at the end though - happy ending! ). And you keep hinting! And you are so good at Arthur-Merlin interaction humour. I am now trotting off to read the sequel. |
