I really doubt with as much detail they have put into some of the plots the past four seasons that they would leave this one hanging or forget about it or ignore it. David Tennant won't be in season 5-which doesn't air until 2010-but he is signed on for FOUR special episodes in 2008/9 only the first of which is called "The Next Doctor". Logically therefore, he doesn't regenerate in the first of the four if he is contracted for all four. So we will have David Tennant for a little longer and it is quite possible that River Song will be introduced in one of those episodes. And it is plausible that River knew more than one regeneration of the doctor but when first meeting him in the library wasn't sure how early a regeneration this one was. So really, I don't think you have much to worry about.

You conveyed the sense of time's complexity very well, the vastness and the sadness in it. Nice use of pacing too; packed a lot of punch for one short fic. Favorited.
