Reviews for The Coming Storm
twistyguru chapter 16 . 4/2/2012
Yep, Marcus desperately needed to get laid!

Sheesh, and I thought I was bad off! 2000 years? Argh...
twistyguru chapter 15 . 4/2/2012
About what I expected, which is a good thing. Some plots just need to play out in certain ways; for the Cullens to NOT wipe the floor with the Volturi guards would have just not fit at all with the story thus far.

Nice one that Carslie pulled on Marcus, btw...I look forward to seeing the old boy get a little pep in his step.
twistyguru chapter 14 . 4/2/2012
I foresee a problem based on the relative rarity of Great Whites. Wouldn't they quickly be hunted to extinction by vamps? Would some other Chondrythian blood work? Lampreys just don't do it for me.

Also, a 'pint' of blood is actually one unit, which (if memory serves) is 450 cc of blood, plus a few more for the anticoagulants, preservatives, flavorings, etc.

Well, maybe not so much the flavorings, but you get the idea.

And since we all remember that there are 946 ml to the quart (and 2.2 pounds per kilo, and 2.54 cm to the inch-all you'll ever need to remember about English/Metric conversion), a pint is a bit more than a unit. Not that anyone cares...

Completely agree with your assessment of Aro's motivation. He'll fight this change with every fiber of his being.
twistyguru chapter 12 . 3/25/2012
Hmm...total control over every molecule of her body?

Hmmm.

Sounds like Ascension, without having to give up the body. (cf Stargate SG-1)
twistyguru chapter 11 . 3/25/2012
Ah hah! Finally, the boundaries are pushed too far. And, it couldn't happen to a nicer beaitch than Renee (even with her finally realizing just what a beaitch she's been).
twistyguru chapter 10 . 3/25/2012
Ah, fart jokes; the timeless classic!
twistyguru chapter 9 . 3/25/2012
Life without chocolate wouldn't be worth living, as the Cullens are about to find out.
twistyguru chapter 8 . 3/25/2012
Ah, I like that you're introducing the idea that vamps initially fed shark blood have all kinds of additional oddities (I won't call sleep a 'power').

Now, could that solve the 'Jacob problem'? I.e., how do you make a werewolf immortal? Okay, let's ignore the fact that if Jacob continues to transform, he'll be immortal anyway...
twistyguru chapter 7 . 3/25/2012
Fabulous Flying Cullens...

*groans*
twistyguru chapter 6 . 3/25/2012
They have Great Whites off the Washington coast? Huh, who knew?

Fortunately, we don't have to worry about that particular nasty in the Gulf, the jellyfish and smaller sharks are nasty enough.

Interesting properties in shark blood. As a plot point, I'd probably limit the 'magic' to the cartilaginous fish only, and make bony fish blood just plain icky. No reason, except to throw in a plot twist that I might want to use later for some reason.

Now, I want to see Emmett wrestle a manta ray!
twistyguru chapter 5 . 3/25/2012
Interesting.

My one quibble is that Emmett has become Super!Emmett too quickly for my taste. It's like he suddenly touched the Widget of Infinite Power (TM) and immediately mastered the Power of the Cosmic Banana Peel (TM), able to bend time and space to his will with the ease that we poor mortals bend taffy.

It's a common trait of all fan fiction, and we all need to monitor ourselves for it; I've done a bit of it myself. However, the more I learn about writing a 'good' story, the more I concentrate on the journey, not just the destination.

On the other hand, don't be ridiculous about it. CF The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, where the hero is a complete schmuck about his powers until he FINALLY dies (to great cheers from the readers who have slogged through the whole damn series) in the last book. Some characters just need to be slapped and told to get the frak over it!
twistyguru chapter 4 . 3/25/2012
Huh.

I'm not convinced that a sparklypire would need fins and a mask. But, accepting that they do, what follows in this story is logical and reasonable as Emmett finds a solution to his problem.

Stoopid shark! lol

Now that you've established that 'seafood' is a good source of blood for vamps (at least major sea predator blood), how about large game fish? Whales (especially Orcas)?

The green eyes are an excellent touch, btw.
twistyguru chapter 3 . 3/25/2012
I can totally see a vampire going for long walks off of short piers. Why not? Air and pressure wouldn't really be issues, would they?

Emmett needs a bit of counseling about draining fresh corpses...no harm, no foul, as far as I'm concerned. The real issue is how he feels about not stepping in sooner; THAT'S the one that would take some time to work through.
twistyguru chapter 2 . 3/25/2012
Took me a while to figure this one out because I haven't (couldn't) read the books. I only got three chapters into Twilight before I couldn't stand it any more.

Interesting short, though; more so because I've seen the same thing happen a time or two in real life.
