| anonymous chapter 8 . 8/24/2019 Awsome chapter! I loved the part where Jasper is telling Bella about his history in the confederate army in the Civil War! Did you know that the Civil War was fought over slavery? Yes, it was! The Civil War began in 1864, more than 300 years ago when the first black people arrived in North America from Africa. Most blacks came here as slaves brought to America from Africa on ships by slave traders. The traders either captured or bought them in Africa removing them from their homelands, tribes, and families. Most of the people who owned slaves were white Americans, but there were also blacks who owned other blacks! No joke! A black woman could own her husband and vise versa. I would write more about the history of the Civil War, but last time I tried, the post became VERY long and my computer deleted everything I had written, so to keep this from happening again, I'm going to keep this history about the Civil War short. If you are interested in learning more about the Civil War and its connection to slavery, there are plenty of Civil War documentaries on youtube to watch and books on the Civil War that you can read! It's very interesting, especially if you can find a good, fictional story that is based around this time-line and history! |
