Reviews for How Far We've Come
xlenaleex chapter 1 . 11/2/2015
Ahhh! I don't know whether to love or hate this! Or maybe I just hate that I love it because I want it to happen so bad, but know that it wont... Like...Well I haven't finished the entire series yet because I stopped after Blackout. I was literally too nervous about what she'd do to my babies. In the middle of reading Doubletake I made myself so sick worrying, that I couldn't get through a chapter without crying in frustration and fear. So I took a 4/5year break, lol!
I feel I can read it now. But the point of saying that is to let you know that it's been a hot minute since I've touched the series, but I do remember how I felt about Promise. I have no idea if she gets better after Blackout but up until that point I abso-friggin-lutely LOATHED her! She was suuuuch a manipulative... slatternly wench...except the opposite of that (can you tell I've been reading your masterpieces? lol!).
Anyway. I would actually love for this scene to happen for real. For her to like really care (and maybe she eventually does, idk). But then I get livid thinking of all the times I thought she did care just for her to turn around and spit out these absolutely HORRIBLE statements about Cal that showcased her blatant hostility towards him. I mean, tell me how you really feel Promise! Even Niko once was like 'whoa...too far'. And I just can't stand people like that. People who are so effing fake. I'd rather her be hostile ALL of the time rather than making a false effort and vomiting out such condescending sweet talk to Cal, just so she can get in good points with Niko. Just no... It pisses me off for and Cal because hello, obvious, and it pisses me off for Niko because I honestly think Promise sees his greatness, and his beauty and wants to possess all of him just so she can say he's hers and not because she really loves him. Because if you really knew him - his past and fears and hopes, all the things that make him, him - and after that declare you still sincerely love him, how could you NOT by proxy also sincerely love Cal? ...like what?! It just doesn't...*sigh* yea.
Then again. She's not human so maybe she can't really understand that. I feel like her (and even at times Goodfellow) don't realize that without Cal, Niko wouldn't be the bad-ass they know and love. They wouldn't have ever met! It'd be like...idk Batman without Alfred... Arthur without Merlin, (J.D. without Turk, lol!), Frodo without Sam... or Dean without Sam (although I'd actually be okay with that b/c I have issues with how Sam treats Dean. I feel like he needs to read the Leandros series so he can learn from Cal how this brother thing is supposed to go. Especially when you're the "monster" and big brother not only gave up his childhood raising you but literally lives to save your ass everyday. How about you show a little appreciation Sam!...but let me stop, that's a completely different topic!)...anyway. I think I got a little winded there. Apologies!
What I'm trying to say is I hate-to-love your scene and you did a fantastic job on it! *round of applause*

Lovely! It's nice to see Cal get some love for once. So often Promise and Robin seem to be Niko's support and Cal's just an afterthought.

I just love your Cal :) Promise was really great, too though. I can absolutely imagine this conversation happening like you wrote it.

I really liked that. Promise is definitely a character I'd like to see expanded on and I thought you did a great job of explaining how she sees Cal.
