I love Cyndi Lauper's version of that song! Only encountered it just recently when I bought a CD of her best songs. She really throws her whole heart into it. Somehow it seems even better when it was a woman singing about a man than vice versa.

I can believe this - Monica's insistence on the importance of her career and even more her stubborn refusal at first to admit that she was wrong. But it is harder to believe that she would have grabbed the job without checking it out first.

But, but, but ... why should the woman always be the one to have to give way? Why couldn't Chandler have considered going with her, maybe getting a transfer - his corporate employers, who have a varied business empire, have no base in Boston? - or jacking in a job he doesn't like anyway and looking for work in Boston? Or couldn't Monica have done what Chandler does from Tulsa, but much quicker, commuting at weekends?

But, okay, my responses are prosaic. The true Mondler fan wants the romance and I can believe that, even if the job had been much better than what Monica found, she would have got sick of being apart from Chandler so often, just as he did in Tulsa, when their relationship was so passionate.

OH! MY! GOD! This is amazing! The angst! The intensity of emotions! Chandler's reactions! God, my heart was RACING! The one scene (you know which one I'm talking about)... God, it was so incredible! I've reread it 5 times now, and my heart STILL flutters!
