Guest chapter 10 . 7/26 So I actually read the authors note for this chapter, and I realized I didn't tell you what chapter interpreted was misspelled in. The sentence where azula clarifies the rules of the original agni Kai, in the chapter where bumi is testing them, and Aang says he can't show up to Bumi's birthday. |
Guest chapter 9 . 7/26 Just a math thing to nitpick. i2 isn't the most common way to use imaginary numbers, or letters in general, 2i is. i is the square root of negative one, so hei bai is 2 times the square root of negative one tons. One other thing, if you go back a couple chapters you misspelled interpreted. I believe it was spelled interpropated? Not sure on that one. Anyway, great story, but god do I hate zhao |
Ogro chapter 18 . 7/11 Wow, hello! Long time no see! I always had fond memories of this fic and since I recently came back to this website to work on Distorted Reality again I figured I'd look around for other AU fics I really liked. Imagine my surprise to see yours updated so recently! Sad to see it being discontinued (I'm one to talk...) but I'm glad you posted a summary! When I did the same most people were happy to see one. There were always cool ideas here and lots of this stuff in the summary seems awesome too - like Katara being the Avatar! Who knows, maybe in another ten years you'll get inspired to come finish this too? Haha Anyway, hope you're doing well. Trust me, I know how it feels to have to discontinue a fic. But it's still cool to see a familiar author after all these years! Our fics are old! |
Asters chapter 18 . 7/11 thanks for the outline and for the story! really appreciate it. hope you’re doing alright |
Lavanya Six chapter 18 . 7/10 I'm glad to see this tale finally wrapped up, even if it's not in the fashion you desired. |
Asters chapter 4 . 7/9 so confused by the box :0 but yay thanks for this chapter! |
deactv chapter 18 . 7/9 Oh! I thought I was whispering into the void, when the void SHOUTED back O_O Well first of all, congratulations on laying the fic to rest. I’m sure all your readers, long-time and otherwise, are happy to have the ‘closure’. Some great plot points in there, my personal favourites being Mai as a Joo Dee and Azula having to go up against her father. For the sake of plot convenience, I reckon Ursa and Zuko would just have to be dead here to allow for Azula’s ascendency. RIP. I’m a little confused on the timeline of Aang’s life. Defeated Sozin, Azulon and (drew) Iroh; agemate of Bumi; but was supposedly around Katara’s father’s age as Blue Spirit? Could just be a spirit thing though. But how did he get into the Spirit World? Is that just what dead Avatars do or did he dramatically exit the physical realm during or after the Agni Kai? Maybe he skipped off into the sunset with Iroh lol. And just how many of the Air Nomads know what really happened and are actively covering up his death? Jamyang seemed to know it was him helping Katara in the mist. Speaking of Jamyang, I must commend you on that particular character. If you’ve read the Rise of Kyoshi book, he reminds me of that particular earthbending villain. Far-reaching influence, relatively level-headed demeanour, and sincere misguided belief in their ideals makes for an insidiously sinister opponent. I wonder what his exact goals are, though. Does he just want to bind the spirits and he’s enlisting the new Avatar’s help with that? What about Jamyang’s plans makes him a rogue unit apart from the main Air Empire? Is it only that the culture is opposed to binding spirits? Is there a particular higher up ordering the capture of Katara or does every Air Empire leader know she might be the new Avatar? And what do ‘they’ need Azula alive for? I hope you don’t feel like I’m bombarding you with questions here! This is just me reflecting and ordering my own thoughts on the outcomes of this wonderful story. Much kudos! |
Guest chapter 18 . 7/8 Pretty solid, and Katara being the Avatar would have been a good idea. I agree about the long-term flaws, you would have needed to leave the plot of the series behind entirely pretty soon. |
Maki-P chapter 18 . 7/8 I can't believe the fic died so close to that motherfucking plot twist. Holy shit, I knew the Air Nomads were keeping something, but Katara being the new Avatar? Holy shit. And I'm rather sad that this fic is officially dead, I really liked it; but I thank you for the summary, at least I'm not left hanging. Thank you for the good work |
deactv chapter 17 . 7/8 This story certainly lives up to its name as a must read for ATLA fans even more than TEN YEARS (holy crap) later. The characters remain true to their nature, but are allowed to explore in a different setting. I loved the use of historical excerpt to provide something like a bird’s eye view of current and past events. I wish I could pick your brain on your ideas and plan for the story, such as what Aang really did; who the Blue Spirit was; and what happened to the rest of the Fire Nation royals, Ty Lee and Mai. I have hope that maybe one day you’ll return to drop an outline or something of the sort, but if not, thanks for the great adventure otherwise. Haha, just realised how similar that sounds to hoping for the return of the Avatar in canon! All the best :) |
DragonLover1551 chapter 17 . 6/12 I really liked this story |
DrCyrusBortel chapter 3 . 4/3 Pre-industrial peoples, IIRC, often had a difficult time adjusting to industrial life. Sokka is headed places when the Industrial Revolution crushes the Water Tribe beneath its clanking steel boot! |
DrCyrusBortel chapter 2 . 4/3 Interesting concept. I like how you emphasize that average benders working together produce superior results to great benders working alone. |
DrCyrusBortel chapter 1 . 4/3 Intriguing. Although I wonder how a relatively small society of monks could have built the necessary industrial base to wage a world war. The Fire Nation was able to launch its conquests off the back of an industrial revolution, as the UK and Imperial Japan did in real life. The Air Nomads would have had to go through a comparable, or even greater, revolution in industry, finance, and military technology to match the Fire Nation's industrial might (which I presume has remained unchanged in this AU). An army of invincible airbenders is no good if you can't pay them on time, or if you need them to help with the harvest, or if you can't supply them on the other side of the world. |
Guest chapter 16 . 2/28 It’s interesting, but annoying to read as the story is set with the fire nation being ‘good’, while it shows it with a much more balanced perspective. So when it’s anti fire nation it makes me feel a bit irritated |
