Anime100 chapter 38 . 8/31/2018 This is truly interesting to read; please update very soon I wonder what reactions would the group give upon finding out a certain someone became a dark signer and had dealt with a certain glasses wearing person? |
Hakase Fudou chapter 38 . 5/6/2015 That moment when the chapter title makes perfect sense after reading the actual chapter. Usually, I don't really pay attention to the titles in the context of the story, but for some reason, this particular chapter's caught my attention. Let me just say you chose a SUPER good title for this chapter. One of the things I really appreciated about this (besides one whole section dedicated to Crow Hogan bless your soul) is how you reiterated the events of not only the previous chapter but for the entire story as a whole. As much as I love this story, I don't necessarily have the time to go back and reread all the other 37 chapters (heck, it took me a little under an hour to read this one . . . welp), so the fact you casually mentioned all the big events in this chapter to refresh the reader's memory was super helpful. Thanks for that. And since I mentioned the Crow scene, might as well comment on that too. I love it a lot and it's not just because I'm easily excitable when it comes to the guy. I mean, looking at this chapter as a whole, Yusei and his struggle to maintain his role while trying not to hurt anyone is the main focus. But then there's this Crow scene where the focus isn't primarily on Yusei (by word of mouth anyway) but Crow himself. The parallel between the two of them in terms of feeling they have to keep things bottled up and be strong enough to protect those they love is really amazing (but also super frightening like pls don't get sick Crow). The whole concept of Crow bottling up emotions and trying to be strong for those he cares about while feeling isolated is just such a fascinating concept to me and I'm super glad you touched on it in this chapter. (And bless Martha honestly.) And Rex's inner dialogue to Daddy Fudo. Well done but also very frightening, especially the "Nah you wouldn't manipulate your son like that" part. I don't know. I just wrote an essay about identity and individuality for a class, so this kind of thing interests me a lot. Yusei Fudo as opposed to Daddy Fudo's son. A hauntingly good part there. Oh. Can't forget the conclusion to Yusei vs Jack though. Their personalities definitely shined through in this chapter, which definitely made it compelling. I especially loved how both go through this subtle yet drastic change in perspective by the end. Absolutely awesome to read. I mean the whole thing is well done, but I just really liked those aspects of the chapter the most. A really well-done comeback chapter and I can't wait to read the next installment. (: |
HeelBayley4Life chapter 38 . 4/23/2015 Good to see you writing again mate. Nice job. |

Hakase Fudou chapter 37 . 1/3/2013 KAZAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Purposefully starting this review like the last one because I can. Also because Kazama. To start with, it's probably just me, but there's something in this chapter that really got my attention, even more so than the other chapters so far. Even if the things I'm going to mention probably have something to do with it, not any of them are what make this chapter stand out to me. And I don't think it's the time gap in between the two either. Eh. I'll figure it out eventually. That aside, this chapter's a powerful one. I really like the analysis of each of the characters after being told of their mission and about the Dark Signers, which basically serve as explanations for their reactions. I especially like the conflict presented with Aki, as far as protecting the people that despised her and her kind goes. And the Jack vs Yusei conflict. ALL OF THE YES. I think those sections were my favorite out of this whole chapter, especially since I consider them a more realistic approach than what the anime presented us with. Although . . . is that a Vanguard reference I spot, with the whole "You're not getting strong, you're getting weaker" thing? BECAUSE IT SURE LOOKS LIKE IT. Well done, well done. (: I await the next chapter. |
Bahamut-255 chapter 37 . 1/3/2013 Damn do they have a lot of internal conflicts to resolve. _ And it would appear that now Godwin is realising the full extent of what his actions to try and pull the Signers together while forcing the Dark Signers to reveal their hand has resulted in. Yusei is trapped in guilt. Jack's a Wanted Man. Aki despises the Akiki Ryu. Ruka is simply too young. And we all know about No.5. As for the Duel itself. A solid start, even with Yusei needing to use someone else's D-Wheel on account of his being out of his reach in still being in a few pieces at this point in time. Having Yusei blank out on Dark Resonator's Monster Effect was a nice touch as well, illustrating how his own fears, guilt, and enforced mental anguish are hampering his performance. So even if he did make a slight recovery, it has put him at a significant self-imposed disadvantage. Now if my Maths is right. Both Yusei and Jack should have 4 Cards left in their respective hands, although Jack has only completed the Battle Phase of his turn, and still has his Main Phase Two to set up a defence for when Yusei begins his counter-attack. Should make for an Epic Duel. Especially since you've already declared that the Duel has activated their respective Marks. |
Hakase Fudou chapter 36 . 9/22/2012 KAZAMAAAAAAAAAAA Well, I didn't expect him that early. News to me. But, in all seriousness, fantastic chapter as always. I especially like how you displayed Yusei and Aki's reactions to the fact that Dark Signers are essentially "the living dead" and the only way to save them is to kill them. Again. Very realistic, especially Yusei's reaction. I also liked the whole Jack and Aki and Naoko scene as well, especially with the way Jack handled the situation after Mikage called. I didn't exactly expect Jack to handle that as well as he did, but I guess the guy can do anything under pressure, I suppose. That preview though. Because the only way to resolve issues is through card games. Always. No exceptions. Really looking forward to that chapter. |
FiringShootingStar chapter 36 . 9/19/2012 All the Signers are together again. How did Aki wake up? Can't wait to see what happens next. |
Bahamut-255 chapter 36 . 9/19/2012 So exactly two known survivors from the actions of Dark Signers Tetsu Ushio and Misty Lola. D. A. M. N. And now the construction of what is now Yusei's third D-Wheel begins, even though he can't be there to build it himself, at least for now. I get the feeling that Carly Nagasi won't be coming back as a Dark Signer, given how she lost to Ushio, meaning she's pretty dead at the moment. With only one means of return for her. One which it seems that Jack will be pursuing. I particularly like how you managed to explain the absence of the fifth servant of the Akaki Ryu. It does provide a decent reasoning for his absence, at least for now, and how Power Tool Dragon - a Machine-Type Synchro Monster - bears a physical resemblance to him - I assume that Life Stream Dragon is Male. Incidentally. Poor Rua. As in the Anime, he's getting his Soul hammered down hard. One other good note. Godwin's last words heard by the attendant group. Not only does it provide one hell of a spoiler for later, but it keeps the others from knowing just what it is, that he refers to. They can only guess that he means the Satellite and City. When he could easily mean Signer and Dark Signer/Light and Dark. It leaves some serious issues to be addressed in later chapters. |
Magdalene Thorne chapter 36 . 9/18/2012 Another wonderful installement :) I truly enjoy reading this as it goes deeper in to the characters' development than the show did. I am worried about Carly. I know you probably cant give me spoilers, but I just wanted to know if you are still going to make Carly into a Dark Signer. I just want to know as it such a big part of her development in the series, that the writers later on screwed up, though I know you wouldnt do such a thing. You are too good a writer to make such mistakes :) |
The Other Half chapter 35 . 9/10/2012 Destinial Cross targets the attacking monster! I'm definitely not making this up right now honest! |
Bahamut-255 chapter 35 . 8/31/2012 Holy. This has been quite the duel here. And an interesting - to say the least - deck style for DS Ushio. Insofar as Divine is concerned. It almost looks like he actually does care somewhat for other Psychic Duellists, adding a much-needed third dimension to his character. Carly Nagasi Vs Tetsu Ushio: Quite the duel they had, and unlike Anime Carly Vs Divine, she actually put up a good fight, almost winning until the Earthbound God turned up. And it looks like I got the name of the EBG wrong. Dog as opposed to Hummingbird. One thing you seem to have overlooked though is that even though the Earthbound Gods enjoy immunity to the opposing players Magic and Trap effects, the opponent can still use them on themselves. Like what happened in Episode 57 of the 5Ds Anime. Therefore Carly should still have avoided the damage, and had lifepoints left following the attack. You might want to tweak the duel accordingly to correct this failing. Rex Godwin speaking of Uru in direct terms. As though he knows full-well as to how it works. Odd. But then he's a complex man. In any case. Looking forwards to what happens next. |
FiringShootingStar chapter 35 . 8/18/2012 This is great. I hope Carly is all right. Can't wait to see what happens next. |
Magdalene Thorne chapter 35 . 8/16/2012 It was great! The duels, the characterization...one thing Im unclear on, is Carly dead, or is she going to become a Dark Signer? Im kind confused on that, so I would appreciate someone clearing that up for me. |
Bahamut-255 chapter 34 . 7/11/2012 Okay, I only started reading this right after you posted Chapter 33, but I'm hooked on this now. As for this chapter... The pressures building on Rex Godwin appear to be finally taking a toll on him, as events begin to slip beyond his control - not good when you are something of a Control Freak. And I do like how you are able to get into his - and everyone else's - minds to show what they're thinking. A well-written explanation as to how Divine was able to secure so much leverage over the Public Maintenance Security Bureau, something even the Japanese version of the series missed out on. It's also interesting to note that you visualised how the pressures of Godwin's position - even then - were beginning to bring about the visual aspects of premature ageing in him, in that his once-black (In the Anime, his hair was black when he was in his late 20s/early 30s) hair was greying substantially by his late 30s/early 40s. Though Godwin did have some small measure of protection over Divine in that he knew his main personal secret, resulting in an effective deadlock for the two of them. Misty Lola, still grieving terribly over the death of her younger brother Toby. Even knowing what she plans to do, I still can't help but feel pity for her, with her actions being decided by a combination of grief, rage, and a whole lotta power. And the real 'shocker', Dark Signer Tetsu Ushio - with no prizes for guessing when it occurred. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised given the location of where he died, combined with the clear rage in his Heart at the time of said death. So if my hunch is correct, the Dark Signers ATM consist of: Rudger Godwin - Earthbound God Uru (Spider) Demack - Earthbound God Cusillu (Monkey) Kiyru Kyosuke - Earthbound God Ccapac Apu (Giant) Misty Lola - Earthbound God Ccarayhua (Lizard) Tetsu Ushio - Earthbound God Aslla Piscu (Hummingbird) Which leaves Earthbound Gods Chacu Challhua (Orca) and Wiraqocha Rasca (Condor) to find avatars. Assuming that they will feature, of course. All of which is serious bad news for the Signers. With Yusei's D-Wheel being the only thing in worse shape than he himself is, they are now at a serious disadvantage, I can only hope that this means you plan to allow other characters to shine instead of doing the NAS thing of Overpowering the main character - like they did in GX & 5Ds. As for a general assessment of this fic to date. One of only two Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds Fanfics which, IMHO, are better than the series itself. The other belonging to MasterDramon's 'My Dark King'. And that is no small feat. :D |
