No infringement about that whistling thing. It's an old trick...the guy who invented it did it with a whistle from a cornflakes box with a pitch of 2600 Hz. Doesn't work anymore for a long time now though, apart from some 3rd world countries.

I read this fic with the undying wish that it had a chapter- or 10 more;; or heck for that to change from 'in progress' to 'complete'

Hi, I've been reading this story for the past couple of weeks, struggling with whether or not I like it, whether the plot is too complex for the story you are trying to tell, or where I really like the characters. But, I will say that I absolutely loved this chapter. What profound way to write about grief - the last third had me in tears over Matt's grief and finally recognizing his loss.

I half wonder if Mello wanted to die; if his driver to tell Matt that he was to be careful was a resignation on his part. If he couldn't be L, if he couldn't ever really have Matt, what was his driver to continue on? His haunting of Matt seems out of place, whether it is actually a figment of Matt's guilt or a true spirit doesn't matter. But the act of him leaving is heartbreaking because it forces Matt to recognize loss and hopefully start his own healing process. To be fair, if it is his spirit, how tortuous it must be caught up and forced to watch this plot play out with someone he loved. I could imagine that, for Mello, this act would be difficult to suffer through. Does he linger because of unfinished business? Can he truly not rest because of the betrayal? If he was resigned to die and then realized that his partner chose to live, I could imagine that being enough of a reason to stay out of spite. Yet the way you write his character doesn't emit that vibe.

Anyway, provoking thought. Great chapter. Too bad this story wasn't finished, at least from what I gathered from other reviews. It would interesting to see what finally happens.

Wow. I'm just seriously amazed by your writing and wish that I could have gotten into this ship sooner, though I did feel my heart break at Matt's constant devotion and betrayal. This was a really refreshing story, I wish you would have continued it.

This fic makes me so sad.
A few years ago I discovered Death Note, loved it and quickly immersed myself in the world of DN fanfic. A lot of fics (as it is with ff) fail to meet the mark-characters aren't quite in character or the plot doesn't entice or deliver.
Now, back then, I found this fic and quickly fell in love. It gave screen time (quite a lot) to my favourite characters and did a remarkable job at keeping them in character, had a unique and well fleshed out plot with character development and insights by the bucket-load. I couldn't remember anything I didn't like about it.
And so, those years ago, I stuck this fic on my watch list on the off chance you updated this fic.
Fast forward to 2014 and I found myself rereading Death Note and thinking back to a fic that put Near as one of the main characters without villainising him or ruining his character for the sake of a ship. So I dug this back up and reread it, hoping it would be every bit as good as I remembered. It was.
Good fanfic can be a rare thing, but this goes above and beyond good and is more line the lines of fanfuckingtastic.
Which makes me sad because it hasn't been updated in near five years, especially since you ended the last chapter with a cliff hanger.
Is there any chance that this fic will be continued/completed? Even a brief outline for things of you're not wanting to continue would be fantastic! It's killer not knowing how this is all going to turn out.
Anyway, this was an absolute joy to read :) so thank you!

I can't explain how much I love this fanfic. The facts, the feelings, the dread! I love thinking of different scenerios when it comes to the characters of Death Note. What I love most about the world is alternatives and making this story twice as great was the stragey, the peices that connected to everything. You're an AMAZING writer and I look forward the next chapters and your future work.

Wow this has to be one of the most intriguing story I have ever read your plot line is absolutey amazing it stitches together so flawlessly, it's refreshing to see a plot that continues after they have sex giving your story depth I thought it would be left unfinished and I'm hapy to note that no there is more to follow and honestly the dead and sun star thingwas something I had lingered over going over different ideas in my head I pride myself on being able to unravel a plot before it's even done and I honestly have to bow in your acheivement of making the answer obvious yet so hidden like near I have obviously not been paying attention though to my regret there is so much going on that I sometimes happen to phase out while reading(bad habit of mine) thinking everything out instead if paying attention to what im reading I'm really excited about your story(if you couldn't tell from the long review) and cant wait to see where else it will take me it will sadden me when this story is finished but like any good book I will be the happier/better for it and feel a bit more accomplished I am so glad I happenstance upon your tale and I shiver in anticipation of the next chapter. Also I don't know how you will take this review being so long and rambling but I apologize in advance if it is inconvenient(sorry polite to a fault n.n ) or too long anyway Ciao!
