Guest chapter 1 . 1/27/2018 Since I'm a lover of first person POV, especially in present tense, I would adore a first person POV tense in a Battle Royale fanfic. It's simple. Just keep the first person POV throughout the entire narration. Just have the character say "I took my last breath." or "The world went away." I would read a first person BR fanfic for sure. Also, I'm planning on continuing the BR fanfic I wrote but deleted. Figured I could bring BR fanfics back to popularity. |
T. Alana M chapter 3 . 6/24/2014 This is hilarious and accurate. "Or not by accident, but you shouldn't say that out loud." Hmm.. Kiriyama probably would have been fine if his death wasn't essential to the protagonists' survival. In fact, considering he survived Sugimura, Mitsuko, and Shinji and his bomb with minor injuries, it doesn't make sense that useless Shuuya and Noriko manage to off him. Since they're the protagonists, they have to live, but them killing Kiriyama? A bit too obvious. They haven't purposefully killed or wounded anyone, and Kiriyama has the highest kill count. Shogo would have managed to wound him, but I think Kiriyama would still have won that fight. Yeah, he'd have been fine. Still an emotional retard, but physically fine. |
T. Alana M chapter 1 . 6/24/2014 You've got a point there. Most AU BR fics are exactly like BR, but with different characters and worse writing. I wonder why people bother to write BR fics if they just want the general concept, and not the characters... |
MermaidRam85 chapter 3 . 7/9/2013 I've read all of your tips. Thanks for them (even if they're only in your opinion). For a while, I've been aspiring to write a fanfiction inspired by Battle Royale. However, I was thinking of doing a crossover with it (Battle Royale story but with characters from a completely different universe (for example Hunger Games, Glee, Harry Potter, etc.). I think this can help me come up with what I hope to do with the story should I ever post it up. |
lol chapter 3 . 6/7/2013 this is so epic! good job! |
Moonlight Willows chapter 2 . 4/2/2013 I agree with almost everything on this page except if the writer is talking about a gardening shovel. That can fit in a bag. I just might use one of those in my BR fanfic. Plus some of the students can find other things that the people who are evacuated left behind. Just a thought :) |
GrauSturm chapter 3 . 3/5/2013 Like an asshole who enjoys killing people. Like an asshole who enjoys killing people without receiving a scratch! Just have to admire him as for now I just can recall the movie where literally TONS of ordonance explodes around him, leaving him unscratched except his eyes, shooting in the direction he heared a sound from and HITTING like a boss. He would be in for the next round blind and with his right hand tied to his back to make it more challenging for him! |
ArtemisHunter chapter 4 . 2/19/2013 I agree with most of these points but you seem to stop being self derogatory and start being harsh to others? I don't think I've ever seen a character in BR fanfiction whose foreign lanuage is anything other than french, spanish or japanese so you've kind of brought up a moot point that doesn't really refer to anything. Also why would the battle begin straight away unless all of the kids grew up in a military type of environment? Everybody isn't just going to run around killing everybody straight away because those are the rules, these are people they went to school with and there are personal attachments to try and get over first. In the middle of this chapter you're acting like the general goal of most br stories is tacky and bad writing when they only employ it to avoid giving away who is going to survive as if its a bad thing. I agree with island design being generally predictable but people shouldn't have to provide a map if they don't want to, it's not a requirement. How all-knowing would you want your readers to be? Is it not enough that they get to see inside the heads of every student at some point or another and be with them when they're die and learn their secrets? Does the reader have to know every twist and turn of the playing field too? Do they need to know what types of food they stock in the market or if the diploma hanging from the wall in the medical center comes from the same college that one of the characters parents went to? If the aim of this story is to point out general cliches bad writing devices then yes in some places you have succeeded, but you're largely using this 'how not to write' story as a vehicle for telling everyone what you specifically don't like. Yes you are free to give your opinion and yes this is a fanfiction where you can write whatever you want but you have already set up the premise and purpose of this fic and you are now violating it. And lastly your final point is an attack on whoever it was that left their story unfinished and I haven't been around long enough to know who that is or what their stories where or to even care. I don't know if anybody has 'switched fandoms' (maybe yourself considering you write under so many on your profile...) but if somebody lets their story turn into a dead fic whilst you are reading it then who cares? Yes it is annoying and yes you were invested in characters and maybe you feel like you wasted your time writing some reviews. Shame on someone cutting their story when you clearly take the world of fanfiction much more seriously than they do. This is a website for casual and unpublished writers, it is a place where people write and update their stories as a hobby. Nobody is getting paid to write stories here and few of them, especially br stories, have the chance of getting published like 50 shades. Aren't you a busy person? You don't update chapters for up to two months a time (making around five or so in an entire year) so you can appreciate how people can be distracted from this, and that's partially why I remain a reader on here and not a writer. So either you're an amazing person for staying dedicated (as dedicated as someone can be whilst they publish chapters months apart) or you don't realize that other people are busy or they lack the confidence or dedication to finish a br story which usually involves 60-70 chapters and 40-50 characters and several hundred thousand words. I literally don't understand why you're so anti-story cutting you're getting worked up over something so pointless and easy to justify and acting as if it makes you a better person with the right to constantly complain about people who abandoned their stories. It is annoying I understand, but you're taking it too personally and before you disagree with me you did make a point to include the very think I'm criticising you on a personal and unrelated viewpoint on what was supposed to be an impartial yet funny documentation of br fanfic cliches, and in this chapter ones that you have employed yourself. And no offense but I don't think anyone minds if you choose not to review stories which you boldly put in the opening to this chapter, the answer to a question nobody asked. If I ever wrote a story and it got reviews I'd think 'oh thats nice/pretty cool' and I'm sure that's the same for most people. Please don't act as if a review penned by yourself with your name attached to it is the highest form of online currency. This review isn't an attack (and if it was it would be a very polite one) it's just an observation and criticism. This How Not To Write story used to be funny and helpful, but this last chapter was bad. If you ever do update this (and I assumed this was finished because it was last updated in 2012...) please go back to being helpful and listing the cliches and how to avert them, not for broadcasting your own specific pet peeves and put downs. If you want to broadcast those, put them in your blog, on your profile or in a new story called 'Fomalhauts Personal Perspective.' Please learn something from my review, it has after all been written to help, not hinder you. |
SOMEONE chapter 3 . 1/27/2013 Thanks, I had a lot of things that I shouldn't have had in mine. |
Satir3 chapter 3 . 9/7/2011 You should make more chapters for this :) |
Annabeth Winchester chapter 3 . 8/13/2011 of course ther has to be guns so they can kill ea ch other. useless stuff is to even it out. plenty of useless backgroudn characters die how else does the story progress without being too long. you contradikting yourself and you shoot yourself in these foots with these disrespctful comments. its likely the last person can die by a bullet because guns are good weapons, also villains dont always die by bullets. marie cooper got blown to pieces joel got his head destroyed damien got his skull crackced an katie got crucified. where do you get off saying these things are true when athey arent? again with shooting people in the chest its easier. its hard to nnotcie people in bulletproof vests because people dont bleed thatm uch irl anyway. stop making jokes. if the battle royal was real id be worried about it lots of people woul. im not reading any more of this onesided rubbish its offensive to everybody who tries to write a story for battl royale. you should be ashamed for posting something so hateful. |
Annabeth Winchester chapter 2 . 8/13/2011 how can you say somebody is mature for not being insulted if you called somebody a fat bitch or an ugly bastard would they be immature for dinfindg that insulting? i dont think so. why are you trying to make jokes at characters that need to be there. of course there a good guy because not everyone is a villain. of course there are murderers students because its a battle royale. of course they are troubled because theyre all going to course people get supid weapons you need to even everything out. also what is all this about firearms? headshots are very tricky and kids who never use guns and can actually somehow shoot bullets would logcially aim for bellies and chests because they are easier shots in the heat of battle. half the time you dont even know what your talking about it. ther was no escape in 72 hours. |
Annabeth Winchester chapter 1 . 8/13/2011 okay i get how this is your opinion and everythign but if its your opinion and not a story why share it? it just looks like youre trying to offend people and by saying that you arent meaning to do that it somehow makes it okay. that or your trying to be funny okay. yeah i dont think its funny to tell people what to do in their storys so they live up to your expectations even though your never going to read half of them. so what if people write in these different ways you cant bully them for it just because you out of loads of br readers dont like it. your points arent even funny and i fend the moffensvie as a battle royal writer and a fan of other battle royale storys such as 72 hours. this thing got alot of attention despite not even being a story and i think its sad that you need to try and bully other people to get rviews. |
els1324 chapter 3 . 5/7/2011 Hahaha, you're hilarious! I only recently got into Battle Royale but all of the things you mentioned seemed like things that would be over used. They were in the manga/movie for heaven's sake! If people wanted to see the original BR they wouldn't be reading a fanfiction...Gosh! I think I'll head over and read your BR fanfiction now, I'm really excited to see your take on it! :) |
SadMovie23 chapter 3 . 4/24/2011 Really funny and helpful guide! And actually very realistic. I'd like to add another cliche I always see: changing the Battle Royale setting from Japan to America (and sometimes England). The cause might be that most writers here are American of British, but let's great creative. The Program started in Japan, there should be more alternative stories happening there. Also, many other countries could hold Brs. Brazil, France, South Korea, Scandinavia, China, etc. It would bring a lot of different enviromnents. Imagine a Battle Royale happening in the amazon rainforest, in the Sahara desert, or in the mountains of Nepal! Thanks for the guide. I'm gonna take everything you wrote in consideration while I write my story :-) |
