Reviews for To Love Again
Basil Allegri chapter 5 . 7/5/2019
This is probably the most realistic M/N story I've read so far. I loved your characterizations - as well as Sharona's involvement.

I used to watch Monk occassionally, but it's been probably three years since I saw an episode. Then, about two weeks ago, I rented a season and I've been hooked every since.
I'm a huge, huge, HUGE Adrian/Natalie fan. Out of all the fanfic stories I've started to read for Monk, this is for sure my absolute favorite. I really hope you continue this, because this story is AMAZING! This story deserves an ending.

How in the world did I miss this awesomeness? I have to say I am very excited about this one and enjoying every bit of it. If I had to describe this story in a word or two, it would be emotionally exhilarating. There are moments here that if I were to see played out on my TV screen, I would probably be gasping and OMG-ing all over the place.

Everything is set into motion with Natalie’s ploy to re-animate a depressed Monk by threatening to kiss him (I adore this whole chapter, by the way). When Natalie got closer and closer and he still didn’t move, I think I held my breath just a little, wondering along with Natalie if her seemingly sure-fire plan was going to backfire in a most unexpected way. Things progress from light and funny to intense and serious in a matter of minutes. And poor, long-suffering Natalie goes from playful to confused to stunned and intrigued to overwhelming heartache, all right before dinner. And when she overhears Monk and Sharona’s conversation, there is shock and confusion of a different, less pleasant sort – not to mention hurt and betrayal and heartbreak. Again I was right there with her because, really, how could he say those things?

Thankfully that question is answered, and I have to admit I got chills at Sharona’s big realization (“Oh… my god. Oh my god!”), and at Monk’s revelation that it wasn’t Natalie’s germs or her contact that he feared…it was the feelings in him that came with her touch and her nearness. And with this reveal, Monk’s reaction to Natalie nearly kissing him in the opening chapter takes on an entirely different meaning. Very nicely done indeed. This is all incredibly romantic, and I am very much enjoying it.

I am so impressed with how well-written this is throughout. You use your words very effectively and depict the range of emotions seamlessly. The dialogue is incredible and flows easily, naturally. Both Monk and Natalie appear to be very much in character, in speech and in mannerism (especially their back-and-forth in Chapter 1). I really like the insight into Monk’s thoughts and his internal wrestling with himself over this big truth that he’s so afraid of. I like how he keeps saying/calling Natalie’s name…and that Julie heard him. The moments of humor (wrench vs hammer!) are genuinely funny, and the chapter titles are a nice touch. This is really setting up for an epic and emotional reunion…but, you know, no pressure or anything. ;)
