Cute story, but here comes the nitpicky. I'm only nitpicky because i love Mello so damn much.

At 14 Mello wouldn't have been sporting his leather attire. That outfit didn't come into play till he joined the mafia, later in the series. While at Whammy's he did wear black but he wore black pants and a black shirt. Almost pajama like clothing. Also, Roger would not leave Whammy's unattended to bring Mello to Japan. As Roger is the only caretaker at Whammy's it would be rather unethical to leave the rest of the children for the sake of one.

Random nitpicky note, but if Mello was truly visiting L during this point in the arc he could have just stayed in the building itself. It had enough rooms and suites to accommodation at least 100 people and their families.

Further nitpicky-ness into play, Mello does seem to be shown to have an inferiority complex in canon, as he's constantly yelling at Near for being better. It would have been more to the point if he was angry at Light for being closer to L and possibly smarter than Mello himself.

Also, in canonical sense i would have to say theres at least a 75% chance that Light would have a better understanding of L than Mello would. I realize for the sake of the fic Mello saying 'i knew him my whole life' would make one assume that L was a regular entity at Whammy's. But as shown in the manga, Mello and Near caught L's attention because they weren't initially as fascinated by him. They were watching him from a distance. and while Mello does idol-worship L as he gets older, it was it never in a fanatical sense. On that point, due to cases, L actually only talked to the Whammy children through a computer with a letter 'L' on it. So while Mello and Near may have seen him at least once or twice, i wouldn't say it's enough to be braggy about.

long review is getting long. So i'll stop talking. I realize this fic is a few years old and things like this are probably really nitpicky, but i just have an urge in me to point them out. So yeah..sorry. ;

That was awesome! Mello's cocky character was hilarious, & I was laughing like a troll at his attempts at getting into L's pants! XD Also, Light's immaturity & posessive-ness was priceless, and the last line about L lying about loving both boys equally was like the icing on top! :D
