I like this theme of them just misunderstanding each other like this. Scenes like this I reckon would happen more in their early days of the their relationship, but it defines them so well :)

I like the bit about cowboy jokes-because I think we could all agree that Mal comes from a ranching backround. Yippe!

haha. aww, very sweet. and yay! for a fellow scientist/writer :) Yeah, I'm just a new browncoat, only just started watching the series (I've only seen the first five, including the pilot) so I'll probably leave off writting fanfiction until I've seen a few more. That way I'll know more about the characters.

my favourite character in this fic is actually Kaylee. She's such a hard character to get well written, and you've done a great job. And Inara is just perfect. heh, poor Mal.

I used to get really pissed off at Mal when he got snarky at Inara until I realised why. It's because her job is lying about emotions and Mal is emotionally fairly insecure.

Or maybe. Like I said, I'm still working my way through them :)

It certainly is... but good luck getting Mal to admit he has any! Nice writing. It felt like it could have actually been a scene in the show!

What a wonderful piece of art you created here - nicely dovetailing with RW events! Their lopsided relationship was beautifully captured in so few words - Mal's self condemnation, and Inara's looking below the surface to who Mal really is. Beautifully done and a joy to read.

YEA! I loved the way this one was set up, you could just see it all in your minds eye, Mal just strolling out of the cargo bay, with a hammer. Inara was great too.
