Words fail me; I really enjoyed the way you expertly captured a changing dynamic. And you definitely had the perfect balance between fluff and angst, for example Holmes listening carefully to Watson's step on the stair but not interferring.

aroound the time of which story is this taking place? It appears to be after the Sign of the Four. But if so, then the characters would be a bit different: already moving toward friends from fellow lodgers.

This is a very good story. You have the characters voices, and their actions and words ring true. Watson's sadness from war and the suffering he saw is very moving. Thank you, and please continue to write more.

That is as great as the shorter ones. Mrs. Hudson's fussing is quite sweet, but I especially like how you portray the relationship between Holmes and Watson at their beginning. That they were not suddenly the best of friends after the Hope case, but that it took some time. The description of how Watson has to deal in comparison with his experiance in Afghanistan was very moving. I found the way Holmes considered Watson at the end also very good.

I hope you write some longer ones in the future.
