Great story. Sai's true reason for appearing worked well. I think I like Hikaru's relationship with his dad here than Akira's with his dad in the anime. Thanks for the story.

I'm really enjoying the way you write his mother. She had such a blah role in the anime.

Thank you so much for the story. I really enjoyed it. I was heartbroken at the end. However, at the same time I am really glad that Hikaru and Kouyuo fixed their father-son relationship. I am still sad about Sai, but it was a beautiful story.

If you're still wondering, the kanji for Heian/Heion is written as 平安時代, "Heian jidai," Heian era. Japanese kanji generally have two readings - "kun" and "on" - and the first two there are the name of the era while the other two are just the kanji for era. The "on" readings for the era name are "hei" and "an", in that order, therefore the spelling Heian is correct (and whoever translated it as Heion is either referring to something else entirely or just needs to study more lol).

Admittedly, the thought that a shared hobby/passion is enough to mend a relationship where one feels absolutely no guilt lying to another person and potentially hurting that person in the process rubs me the wrong way, but I guess Sai really just couldn't stay any longer. Maybe he only had a few years left in him even without Shuusaku's early death... At least it brought Hikaru and Kouyou a bit closer when the former dragged the latter with him on the wild goose chase, ahaha.

Normally I don't post reviews on chapters that aren't updating currently but...I got to say I love anime dads to. Or actually complex/good parents in fiction in general. They are surprisingly rare with the majority of characters seeming to be orphans at least half of the rest having mommy/daddy issues. Ironic since a good parent/child (even if the parent and child aren't biologically related) bond can be so much more complex and interesting than a bad one. I mean many stories make the main characters orphans to either make their backstory brood-material, make vengeance a plot point or to have no one stand up for the character. I mean can you really see Maes Hughes letting his daughter do half the stuff the 'main character' usually does? If he had the power do you really think he'd let the Elric brothers?
So really; long way around saying: I like the refreshing positive relationship, especially when it's a dad. There need to be more awesome dads in the world.
