Time for plan B? "Wingardium leviosa" works. If Ron can do it, Jimmy's a certainty.
madeyemarauder chapter 2 . 5/11/2012
Wow! Plenty of action coming up. I expect Umbridge will see them, but come off second best? She was useless at wand work in the book; I was disappointed that the film made her quite adept.

Thanks for a great story.

Jazzcat chapter 26 . 7/23/2010
Lovely speech from Esmeralda! The brief trip Jimmy took down Memory Lane was a treat for the devoted reader as well. Having experienced all these things at Jimmy's side through your wonderful stories, I also felt as if I had gone through a kind of journey with him. That, to me, is what storytelling is all about.

Wait until Violar finds out that Jimmy knows about flying horses. That will throw her for a loop.

The end of graduation, the completion of seven years of schooling and the beginning of a new journey and a new life, was so emotional. There was the wild joy - and the bittersweet sense that the familiar was gone, unable to be recaptured. All of that was formed beautifully in this chapter.

This was my favorite part, right here:

"Jimmy."

He froze when he heard his name. His chest tightened at the sound of the familiar voice. A rush of memories flooded his mind, ending with him sitting heartbroken under a darkened sky.

*****

So simple... so poignant. I'm very glad Rana came back to patch things up. It brings such a sweet sense of relief and freedom when old, deep hurts like that can be mended. It doesn't always happen in life, but when it does... you treasure those moments.

And I love how protective Rosa is. She's a little bulldog, and I love her for it. She is just too much!

The scene with Artimus and his family was heartbreaking. It hit kind of close to home for me - in a way. I knew Artimus chose a career with Muggles, based on his conversation with Mathers in the previous chapter. It's tough when you lose family members over doing what you know is the right thing to do - for your life, for what you feel is a just cause.

And now they're all members of the Guild of Light. That's awesome.

Fantastic story - again. Very much looking forward to the sequel.

Blessings,

Montana Jones... *laughs*

Oh my goodness. I cannot believe there was a niche for Jimmy after his auror training failed! The devastation and total disinterest he felt as he moved through the few options he had left could be felt. Just a fantastic scene. And then, to have everything fall into place for him at the Athletics and Activities Association table was so awesome.

And vindication at last - for Jimmy and Harry Potter and everyone else who staunchly believed (or knew about) the evil stirrings just under their feet!

This part was fabulous:

Darius extended his hand.

O'Bannon stared at it. He didn't want to accept their apology. He wanted to know why they hadn't felt this way at the beginning of the school year. He wanted to know why they took the word of reporters they didn't know instead of their classmate of seven years. Why had they ridiculed him? Why had they shunned him? Why had he risked his life and the lives of his friends in Ovenderburg and England for a bunch of people who thought him a gullible Muggle-born who spread lies?

*****

It's so hard for people who are wrong to eat humble pie, own up to the mistake, and try to make things right. Kudos to Darius for risking a lot to rebuild that bridge. And huge Kudos to Jimmy for accepting it - for realizing that an evil agenda would never want to see that bridge take shape.

Unfortunately, he didn't have the opportunity to seal that forgiveness with an official handshake before Mathers showed up, NOT ready to eat humble pie and ready to dump the blame for the whole war on all of Muggle-kind. It was painful, actually, and very real. And finally Artimus stood up to someone... and had the lid blown on his secret job too early. I hate it when such well-laid plans are torn apart, particularly when one HAS to be careful to make those plans to avoid additional family strife.

Fantastic chapter... and fantastic story. I'm already sorry that Dark Horizon is coming to an end.

Wow... somehow I missed that Jimmy was having a flashback, and I thought maybe you'd skipped waaaaay ahead into some kind of marvelous present where Jimmy was, once again, putting together a hockey team and hanging out with the lovely Mireet Mirandeaux. What I loved the most about that hockey scene was that Jimmy actually had the opportunity to pull off a cool move with Mireet watching and not fall SPLAT on his face. Most of the time, in stories, that's exactly what happens to the poor hero.

It was, indeed, too short a reunion. And then Jimmy was saying goodbye again all too soon. Another great scene.

After they arrived in Massachusetts, the way Jimmy had to sort through his feelings for both Tonks and Mireet was very, very well written. Jimmy and Tonks just didn't feel on equal footing. Jimmy and Mireet, though... they work beautifully together.

I love how, at this point in time, Jimmy has fully embraced the life he's been given. He has dreams outside of where he is - I think most people do. He would love to go to college like a regular Muggle kid and play hockey and try for the pros. Instead, he's in the Wizarding World, studying to be an auror and locked in a great big war.
Jazzcat chapter 23 . 7/23/2010
The farewell between Jimmy and Tonks was very heartfelt and touching. To see a woman like Tonks cry was deeply moving, and later on, when Jimmy was sitting in the boat and began to miss her even more, you couldn't help but feel very sorry for him. *shakes head* Fortunes of war.

I have that very quote by Edmund Burke on my Facebook page. I have a whole list of favorite quotes, but the one Nathan referenced is easily close to the top. Which is why it's the only one on my Facebook.

Rosa makes me laugh: "Artimus, you're also going to make some woman very, very happy one day. Jared, you're going to drive whatever woman is stupid or drunk enough to marry you up a wall."

She had another fresh batch of wisdom to serve up, and Jimmy was the recipient. The scene on Normandy beach was a surprise, and it was powerful: I could feel the intensity of the place as if I were standing in that boat right along with them.

Beautiful reunion with Mireet. I was wondering if that would happen, but chalked it up as too much to hope!
Jazzcat chapter 22 . 7/23/2010
Hahaha, Jimmy had the same thought I did: Top Gun on broomsticks! Only Jimmy couldn't remember the name of the movie. Maybe if someone pulls up Kenny Loggins' Highway to the Danger Zone, it will totally jar his memory. *grins*

All Jimmy needs to do now is the celebratory fly-by on his broom. We just need a volunteer for a coffee spill.

*laughs* Took Jimmy long enough for a little bit of remorse to kick in after he met Tonks' parents. I must admit, I read this section with an incredibly wicked sense of delight:

O'Bannon's eyes flickered all over the house. He wanted to look anywhere but at Mrs. Tonks. The irrational fear gripped him that if he made eye contact with her, she would somehow know every single thing he had done with her daughter in the Room of Requirement.

And God help him if Mr. Tonks found out.

*****

He totally had that coming.

Dumbledore's words of praise and wisdom rung so true. Beautifully-crafted speeches in this chapter. The sense of awe Dumbledore brought as soon as he entered the house could be felt.

Fantastic ending with the four hands in the middle of the table.
Jazzcat chapter 21 . 7/23/2010
What a great dogfight. On broomsticks. O'Bannon has brains and guts - and everything else it takes to be a leader. But this whole troupe is going to be in for some serious healing and downtime once this mess is sorted out.

Thank goodness Tonks came back at just the right time. I knew at least one of the group would return for Jimmy... They're too close as friends to leave any one of their number behind.

Beautifully done, JJ.
Jazzcat chapter 20 . 7/23/2010
A great chapter! A rescue in the nick of time, a hop out the window, and a flight on broomsticks. I knew they were going to get chased. What's a good flight without a little pursuit?

Now for a little Top Gun, I suspect! Merlin was Maverick's wingman, after all. *grins* This should be fantastic.
Jazzcat chapter 19 . 7/23/2010
Holy smoke! What an awful thing for Rosa to go through. Good thing she's a warrior, but still... I'll bet she has a broken nose after all that.

This was a tough chapter, from a violence perspective. It was well-done, but it's hard to watch when one of the heroines falls into the hands of such heartless monsters as Draco and company. Rosa went down fighting - she would, of course - and she delivered her share of blows, but Rosa's capture and "punishment" were definitely shudder-worthy.

Great job by Angelina and company, getting rid of six aurors. They just need to get rid of a few more... and some of the friends those aurors brought along.

The author's notes have been entertaining, but this one in particular was good. I heard about the origin of "blivet" a long time ago. Very funny.
