Well, that was fun. City girl Kaoru, being badass and showing up savages like a pro. Even more impressive considering she wasn't even raised as a fighter.

The build up of the romance was nice too. I always enjoy pining and oblivious KK. They're so adorable when they get that way, especially if they get it in their heads that it's for the other's own good that they stay away.

Loved Kaoru’s courage in the last chapter and her take-the-lead thinking while her and Megumi got the women to focus on helping their men and children. What a powerful picture of determination!

Great chapter! Loved reading it again after the missing chapter was added. Gotta say, Kaoru's parents are pretty stupid and shallow. Did they ever know that their daughter was once a geisha, and therefore no longer a virgin? Or did that slip their ignorant minds? Smh

Seriously, that governor's wife irritates me. I think the barbarians had more honor and morals than these so-called "aristocrats". Ugh.

Hmm, so who IS the new King they're blabbering about? My money's on Kaito, that Judas.

Poor Kaoru, she went from being sold to strange men to being sold again to yet another strange man, this time by her own parents. Selfish pricks. I mean, who cares if the bastard turns out to be abusive and disrespectful? Or that she holds nothing but disgust and disdain towards him for being tied down in a loveless marriage that's more of a prison than anything else for her, while her heart will always long for another? As long as it benefits her POS family, right? She'd have been better off being raised by wolves than with these superficial snobs. To them she's nothing more than an auction piece; sold to the highest bidder.

I'm hoping Kenshin has survived somehow or played dead to deceive everyone, including that traitor. I do hope the next chapter illustrates what happened to his clan: Yahiko, Megumi, Sano, Saito, etc... I wonder if any were captured and/or killed in that melee. I hope not, but judging from the events, I doubt any survived that ambush, imo.

And I'm hoping Kaoru can escape this awful fate; it's much worse than being kidnapped by barbarians of course. At least those people were more civil than those jackals of high society.

Ha, at least she stood up to those stuffy old farts! \o/\o/\O/
And regardless, no one could compare to Kenshin; she should remind her prick "fiance" of that every single miserable day of his life, hehe.

Excellent chapter! Now we know the backstory that led to Kaoru's "rescue" or more like capture, if you ask me. Why do I have this nagging feeling that it was Kaito who sold out Kenshin to the soldiers? How else would they have known exactly where the barbarian tribe were? Hmmm... Seems suspicious to me. After all, with the redhead outta the way, HE would be the next line to be King. Pretty darn convenient, I'd say.

Also, who the heck IS Takada's sister anyway? My curiosity has peeked. Could it be Megumi? Or Tomoe? I'm very much intrigued.

Anyways, loving this story more and more. Can't wait to get to the end, it's addictive, I tell ya.

Though I do hope one day you'll finish The Ugly Prince, too. ;)

I might need to re read the entire last chapter because I could’ve sworn she was with Kenshin then all of a sudden she was taken back to the city? I’m kinda scratching my head. But I did love the arguing and banter between Karou and her parents. Especially the ending. Hilarious!

Did you miss posting a chapter? Where the heck was this attack where Kenshin was injured and Kaoru was knocked out?

Also, are Kaoru's parents somehow unaware that Kaoru already lost her virginity during her geisha training?
