Gracious, how old is Elladan in this chapter? My, my, Elladan, such questions! I liked it, though!

I know this review is really late, but I really liked this chapter! It was cute.

Wow! What a wonderful collection of stories. I don't know how I missed them. But I really enjoyed reading through each one tonight. Chapter ten was wonderful! You gave Aragorn a depth that I have not often seen. His worry about losing his family, his love for Arwen, the seemingly insurmountable takes ahead, and his easy interactions with everyone - elves, hobbits. Great tales! Thanks for writing!

That was brilliant, really sweet and realistic. Is there more? Please let there be more! I loved it.

Your reasoning on the length of an elven pregnancy makes sense, but Tolkien-maddening man-says something different. He says it's a year. So like you, he thinks it's longer but not quite as long. Also, you're absolutely right that elves' minds developed more quickly than men's, but their bodies grew more slowly. Tolkien says they talked before they were a year old and learned to walk and dance by that age too. But they were smaller than human children the same age. They came of age at 50. The twins were 110 when Arwen was born, so they were adults. All that info (except the relative ages of the twins and Arwen, which is in Appendix A to ROTK) is unfortunately hidden away in an essay Tolkien wrote called "Laws and Customs of the Eldar," so it's not easy to find. The really maddening point is when Tolkien changes his mind about stuff. You're thinking along the right lines, obviously.

The detail of the sticky door that usually yielded to a well-placed kick made this seem very real.

"Elladan felt a smile whisper on his lips that had not adorned them for many a year. It was a comfortable sensation; like stepping into a old pair of robes, remnants of a past that has been marred by the future and now seemed lost to the present."

Really, really nice.

This was an honest chapter, avoiding sentimentality about nature. It's hard to write with that kind of strength.

Lovely moment when Elrohir's confident words mask his worry that he'd fail to hit the apple. I like dialogue with a subtext. And then, Legolas snows them completely! LOL

"But then again, their ada was not here." LOL

I like the idea of hand-crafted cribs. That joy in making and the artfulness used with useful things seem very elven to me.

As a parent, I also recognized Elrond's wonder at the great joy he feels on holding his child. And I appreciate that you're aware of how rare twins are among elves and that these two are unusually identical, as Tolkien tells us. The idea that there would never again be twins so identical is a nice reference to the passing of the age of elves.

"The world was just waking up." - beautiful sentence

I thought it was clever to have Celebrian craving two things at once because she's carrying twins. And the word "unkindness" caught my attention too. To me, her wish to be kind captures perfectly the person I'd expect her to be. I also liked the way you're so clearly aware of elven culture-how long a pregnancy lasts and when elves start counting how old their children are.

This was just a nice little vignette. I enjoyed reading it.
