hah this fits so naturally that im almost inclined to see it as canon! That hesitating bit was rather good in the series and while its more an affirmation that gaara is alive and their friendship even more so it could easily be something more...like this little gem. and so in character too! Loved it!

I can't find the words to express how good this one-shot was. It was sweet, endearing, warm and had all this bubbly feeling to it. Naruto and Gaara were so in character and I just loved it. I loved the tentative touches and the acceptance of them on each other. Agh! It was just amazing. You write really well in that you can actually see the story unfold in your head without so much embellishment. Again, amazing job.

Um...Gaara doesn't really act like that...but if he's trying to sleep, I guess so. Nice job!
