The Happy Pen chapter 1 . 5/14/2017 Ooh, I was actually looking for a fanfiction like this one since I finished re-reading Spiral (and being hit really hard after Kanone's death)—short and simple yet powerful—so I honestly think the first thing I have to say is: thank you so much for writing this. I love how you created this solemn atmosphere, but instead of making it heavy, it felt fairly light—you can still feel the loss, but it's not terribly pronounced. The simplicity of your style seems to emphasise the plainness of their grief, but still keeps a sorrowful touch. I get what you mean by it felt like they didn't seem to care so badly. More like, it felt as if Eyes was the *only one* who deeply cared. Since the manga didn't show Rio's, Ryouko's or Kousuke's reactions to Kanone's death, I'm glad that you showed they did feel a loss, at least a little bit, here. You also captured their characters perfectly—it's amazing how you could paint them so beautifully in such a short story and make each of them appear so vividly. The little details really made an impact, too: Kousuke's tie, the absence of irises, the gifts—things like that. I'll admit, I was a bit sad that they burned Hizumi's letter to Kanone, but thinking about it, it felt like something they would have done—there's probably a deeper meaning in there somewhere, like Kanone's received the words or something, but since my head hurts, I think I'll look for it later. I must say, my favourite line was the last one, because I always felt that music piece was such an important thing in Kanone's arc. When I just couldn't find it being brought up effectively, I actually considered making a family/friendship fanfiction for Eyes and Kanone with the mention of the song—but then I discovered this bright little gem and my dream came true! My apologies for the rubbishness of this review, I really wish I could say more, but since exams are still going on, I need to go back to studying. In any case, beautiful writing! |
simza chapter 1 . 12/23/2010 I remember reading this waaaay back, but never reviewed because I get paranoid for sounding lame and fangirly and over-analytical about the characters' psychology and blah blah I'm rambling this early on- Aaaanyway I really liked this story, for everyone's personal demonstrations of farewell to Kanone. They're still *them*, for lack of better word, even though this had happened. I like the sad feeling this evokes, not only in the sense that they've lost someone very important, but also that yes, time still goes on and so must they. Very lovely job~! |
JapanManiac chapter 1 . 6/5/2008 Very...Beautiful and good! but wasn't after Kanone's dead Ayumu doesn't really met him until later in the story? (Sorry, only read up 'till chapter 68 but i dunno about where to search the rest from) |
Kounellii chapter 1 . 5/22/2008 this is a fitting resolution to Spiral! i did wish everyone could've visited Kanone's grave with Eyes too. |
mushyk chapter 1 . 5/19/2008 *pretends he's not crying* T_T That was beautiful, and I loved the different flowers you've used. I knew what some of the flowers were so it gave me a lovely mental image, but also a very sad one. I love the very last line: "He doesn't play 'Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude', but he thinks he might add it to the répertoire of his next concert. " That was what really, REALLY made me smile/cry at the same time. I'm just amazed and it warmed my heart. Kanone may have passed on, but he's still in everyone's hearts! T_T |
adina chapter 1 . 5/8/2008 wow, i'm actually quite surprised! to see them all so carefree or, better said, resigned, unresenting... although i guess you're right when you mention that -they- don't really seem to be upset... maybe it's just me. moo. you made them sound very natural, anyway - and, oh my, i loved the whole kousuke's-shirt-business, that was pure gold! so very much like them, the way they all reacted - and most of all, that part at the end, when they're on the couch, i can so picture that... oh! and i giggled when you introduced the azalea there, amongst all those flowers XD so, yeah; i can't see them this unaffected, but you still manage to make it seem perfectly normal (this is what i meant when i said, some time ago, that, to me, it seems you understand the charas very, very well 8D). and the style, i love it. as usual. |
pengiechan chapter 1 . 5/5/2008 Absolutely beautiful. |
