Reviews for Her Favorite Son
icecatfire chapter 1 . 9/24/2018
:D I LOVE YOU for this! I have SIMILAR beliefs about Sirius and his family; there is NO WAY he JUST hates them, it HAS to be more complicated than THAT! I actually just gave one of my friends an idea for a story about Sirius, his family and his feelings for them. *Beams*
Emmeebee chapter 1 . 5/1/2014
To start with, just some minor nitpicking (wasn't sure whether to include this, but I'd want to know) - most/all of the time 'Black's' were written it should've been 'Blacks' because it's plural rather than possessive.

On to the positives - I really liked your interpretation of the characters! I'd always just thought of them hating one another due to ideological clashes, but it does fit much better for them to also love one another - after all, betrayal hurts most if you love the betrayer and, whatever issues the Black family had, Walburga was his mother and I don't see the clashes coming until Sirius grew older and started questioning the blood supremacy and extremism. Also, if Walburga purely hated him, she probably would have either changed or destroyed the decorations in his room. Besides, from the sounds of it Sirius was charismatic and charming and 'fun,' which would've been a nice change even if it were one she might view with exasperation when he's being reckless or mischievous.

Beautiful. I love this story!
Ebony Hitsugi chapter 1 . 5/24/2012
It's great. I think that, even though Sirius said his Mother didn't have a heart, she did. I just think that she thought of it as betraying his Mother, who loved him unconfitionally, no matter what.

Though Walburga Black acted as if she didn't love Sirius, I've always believed that, deep down, it truly did hurt her to have her first son leave home, that she was hurt, but covered all of it with that bitterness and contempt, I also believe she's had to tell herself things against him, that he was a Blood Traitor, that he left her, them, to hang out with 'Mudbloods,' Half-Bloods, and a Werewolf, and if Sirius valued that over family he was nothing.

But still, deep down . . . within Walburga's cold contempt heart, was a part that was alive with love, beating for her first, and only live son. Sirius Black.

This was just lovely.

And honestly, I agree with your opinion. Just like I dearly believe Sirius and Regulus were close and that in Azkaban, Regulus unknown death also haunted Sirius.

I have a Character's Read fic that focuses on the Blacks. I am trying to make Orion and Walburga neutral towards Sirius and worried for Regulus.
Mai Ascot chapter 1 . 12/20/2011
I completley agree. I think that no mother can love her child, and it would be ridiculous to think that Walburga would be any different. A mother is a mother, and mother's love their children.

I have been thinking of doing a story lately revolving around the feelings of Walburga towards Sirius, and you have captured what I was thinking of perfectly.

People, are people. They make mistakes and they are imperfect, but everybody is perfect in someone's eyes, and I'm so glad you stuck by this concept.

Black's are able to love, and if you tried hard enough I bet you could get Tom Riddle to feel love, because nobody is incapable of love.

I know I'm going quite deep here, but I thought that you deserved to know what emotions and thoughts your amazing story brought to my very messed up mind which is so full of sappy emotions and garbage.

I love this story, please do something else on Walburga.

That's wonderful, you make an human Walburga . I think she has no luck her life... Thanks to you she is in ours hearts.
Asher Elric chapter 1 . 7/20/2009
I think that you did this beautifully.

This is going on my favorites list. Hell, you even made me tear up. *lol*
gwennlkj chapter 1 . 5/22/2009
Amazing. I love how you characterized Walburga. Family feuds are always bitter when the members cared about each at one point. If Walburga, Orion, and Regulus hadn't disappointed Sirius over and over again he probably wouldn't have left. I have a theory that the way they treated Andromeda after she admitted she had fallen in love/married Ted, was the beginning of his growing resentment. Their reactions drove away someone, I believe, Sirius loved dearly.
Shahzadi chapter 1 . 3/26/2009
I am so glad that someone wrote this portrayal of Walburga Black. Yeah, she's a Pureblood supremacist but I never really did think that that was all she was made of. After all, Kreacher constantly complained that Sirius's running away "broke Mistress's heart", and why would she be broken if she didn't care at all about Sirius?

The only thing I found hard to believe was how Walburga could have resented the Blacks, even when remembering Sirius. I think she and Sirius were similar in temper which was probably why they clashed. She stuck to her beliefs and he to his, even as she loved him.

Nevertheless, thank you for the lovely one-shot!

I may not, rather predictably, agree with your interpretation completely, I still think you were right about some points, & I still loved your writing style. )

I agree that Walburga, however unpleasant or uncaring she might've seemed, she was still a mother. And a mother could not hate her child. But I don't think she ever admitted to even herself that she loved him after he left. I think she dealt with her heartbreak the way her portrait dealt with Sirius's presence in Grimmauld place. It must've drove her over the edge, but I think she remained in denial, telling herself (& everyone within hearing range, probably) that he was unworthy of her love, a shame on the Black name.

Also, I do believe that Sirius must have loved all of his family too, but he was a passionate person, & his love must have turned into bitter hate. They didn't accept him or his beliefs(just like he didn't accept THEIR beliefs. But it was war, & clashes of opinion of that sort would've brought the family down one way or another)and he felt bitter hatred towards it. It must've been awfully painful, & I think he probably doubted his decision for a long time, but I don't think he felt that much remorse when he was out of Azkaban. At least not any more than he felt about it before. You saw how he dealt with the portrait. The mutual hatred that had long since buried the familial love was all but burning out at each other.

Anyway, it's only my opinion & my interpretation, & there're many that disagree with me. After all, that's what fun about the HP universe, how there're many things unmentioned, that many can debate over & disagree about. And still, this piece cause my eyes to tear. ..)
