This is a nice story, classic Palletshipping.

I think that this pair is better told when they're young, though, and you have the chance to make Ash an oblivious idiot, which is always fun. And I really wouldn't mind seeing another version from Gary's POV. I also have to admire how you wrapped it all up so nicely- I always have difficulty with that! :)

It's really good :) I'll admit though, when they said that their blastoise and pikachu were dead I was a bit sad, but the ending made up for it.
