I’m smiling. I’m happy. I did not think this story would be everything I wanted, but it was! Efficient, powerful, detailed, and when picturing it, it made me satisfied, because I think in an alternate reality this really is canon, or at least a deleted scene. It blends so well to the movie and the book, and I feel like my understanding of their brotherhood in this story helps me out in the other one:)
Him blocking out the stars (his frustration at complicated questions and answers) to talk to Edmund - who, as the conversation goes on, Peter realizes is acting in the straightforward way he wished for - ends with him wanting the otherwise hated complicating feelings/inquiries in order to sort them out with his brother. And they’re both better off for addressing the stars by the end! That was great writing - the structure of this was spectacular. Introduce the stars idea, block out the stars and what they symbolize, and have the bro’s figure out their stars themselves, together. I especially love how Edmund is happy by the end - haunted, changed, but becoming happier. The moment when he corrects ‘nightmares’ to ‘memories’, and how summary of his time with the Witch, is enough to paint the gruesome night with, and this insight then was made realistic, genuine, and really emotional. I missed in my first read that they fell to the ground because Edmund reaches out for Peter on the Hammock - that stuff makes me really love the art of storytelling. There’s a ton of detail that adds to the scene and the impact of it, and gosh it’s brilliant.
I love how we get to see this extra, momentous step in the mending of their brotherhood, even as the battle isn’t over and their England memories are fading and Aslan’s sacrifice and resurrection has yet to happen. I adore this existing in such marvelous fashion. Thank you for working hard to make a great moment, I really am astounded to how many feelings I got during this piece:)

Aslan sacrificed himself after Edmund came back, for he was there when Jadis renounced her claim on Edmund, and Aslan took his place in the killing to satisfy the Deep Magic. I'm pretty sure it had to be around dusk when Aslan spoke with Edmund, than night the next day as Aslan set off to the Stone Table.
Just saying :)

Fact: The Emperor's Deep Magic written on the Stone Table parallels the law given by God to Moses, written on tablets of stone, with Aslan's death mirroring Christ's crucifixion. (sorry if you're an atheist out there) :L
