Reviews for My Soul to Keep
HoT.aGaiNsT.a.WaLL chapter 7 . 9/6/2012
OH. God. That was awesome. And so brutal. But awesome.
Beautifully written. I loved every inch of it. I wish there was more, but I'm fully aware of the pressures of daily life vs. fanfiction. It's always a toughy trying to balance it all out. This was a brilliant AU, and exceptionally well executed. I can honestly say this is one of the best fanfictions I've read in this fandom.
Our boys do make a great couple, don't they? I certainly hope that JD gets to see the sunshine again, soon. It'll be a beautiful day.

Amazing! I want to know what happens next though lol great story.
sams chapter 7 . 7/9/2011
I actually don't like JD/Cox. But obviously it didn't matter because I like your story a lot. I read it like two weeks ago (yeah, sorry I'm really lazy with reviewing, I usually don't) and I came back to it in my mind every now and then. So I just had to find it again and tell you, that you wrote a nice piece here. It touched me somewhat unexpected, as I don't enjoy reading about war szenes either... Great stuff, thanks! :) sams

Awesome! I was hoping to find this story again and I'm so glad you completed it. I love the universe you've created (I have a yen for apocalyptic AU's) and think the characters are quite IC.

I hope that you may be inspired to write a sequel at some point, but even if you don't it's still a great fic!
thebondgirl chapter 7 . 6/17/2009
hey there - just wanted to drop in and let you know that i really enjoyed this story. it was really well written, and you didn't settle for an easy, 'and they all lived happily ever after story' - rather than trying to wrap it up semi-neatly, and too quickly, you left it as an open and continuing journey, and the effect was perfect.

great job!
bghnbghn chapter 7 . 6/12/2009
Oh, I am so sad to see this end D: It was really, really excellent! You're very much in touch with every part of this story and every character's feelings, and that's part of what made it so fantastic, Really amazing job, please keep writing scrubsfic :]

Bells of Tomorrow chapter 7 . 6/9/2009
What a heart breaking beautiful way to wrap this piece up. (Part 1, anyway) This was such a great story. I'm rather sad I caught it so late, but it was nice to be around for the posting of the final chapter, and it's even nicer knowing that a part two to this magnificent story is on it's way. Now to point out the things I loved, because I'm a nerd like that and I have to. I really enjoyed Perry referring to Dan as his brother-in-law. It was definitely a bittersweet moment, what with Dan also receiving a punch in the face from said doctor, but I enjoyed it all the same. I also really loved the added twist that General James Hollock is now on their side. And I loved - loved, loved, loved - Perry reflecting on that photo of JD from their wedding day. It was so sad to read, and yet this line here filled me with some much needed hope: "But it is also a reminder of what the older doctor is fighting for, what he needs to fix in order for Jonathon Michael Dorian-Cox to be just JD again. And Perry will be damned if he doesn't see that day." Beautifully written. On a rather opposite note, JD's line

about "Times like these" to Dan being not a goodbye, but being a "just in case" gave me goosebumps. I also truly and utterly loved JD's reflection on everyone around him at the beginning of the "Two months later" scene. And, as I stated in the above, I loved how you wrapped this all up. It makes me worry for JD and the crew even more, but his speech was truly moving. Anyway, I'll bring this review to a close now, as I've rambled on quite enough. Once again though - you did a great job with this story, and I'm really looking forward to Part 2.
Lauren chapter 7 . 6/9/2009
I'm writing this so late because *I* just got home from my late-night shift at a clothing store. Underpaid workers, unite!

Anyway, I'm really sad that this is somewhat of an end. I've loved this War!Verse ever since I found it on LiveJournal a year or so ago, and was so excited when I saw the updates of . As for this chapter, I don't think it was too rushed. You did a nice job of wrapping up the double dilemma, then smoothly transitioned into an emotional Perry POV. You explained how he wanted the war to be over and then you let that feeling carry into the last paragraph. Nicely done! Once again, thank you for providing us with this wonderful, imaginative story.
andaere chapter 7 . 6/9/2009
Excellent, excellent ending! I love how JD was giving up, but he's trying to pull himself together so he can end the war. I like that General Hollock joined the rebel's side (he did, right? Or did I infer that and it never happened and I'm just making a fool out of myself?). You write so, so, SO well. You've got a wonderful grasp on the characters, and how they would change under the pressures of war. I love the "Jonathon Michael Dorian-Cox" that you've created (man, that's a mouthful. I prefer "JD". xD). I love the little details that you put in, like how Perry carries a serious!JD picture around with him instead of a cute fluffy one. Very Perry-like. And also very Perry-like to carry the one around that makes him feel guilty (yeah, I don't know, on second thought that doesn't seem like Classic Cox, but the Perry that you've created... well... yeah.).

I don't think the ending seemed rushed or unfinished. But I must say, I'm SUPER HAPPY that there's gonna be a second part. :) And possibly a third and fourth and fifth part? That's how much I love this AU that you've created! :) It's just the type of story I'm looking for. JD angst and drama without going over the top... and JD/Perry. SQUEE! I LOVE THIS! :) :) :) Thank you so much for writing it, and I'm sorry about your crappy job!
Semaphora chapter 7 . 6/9/2009
A grocery store is no place for someone of your talent. Definitely not. I absolutely love this story, and to me this was the perfect ending - things panned out well, though the war is still raging, and you've left things open to the reader to decide what happens next.

I really wish there was more, though, as you've created such a unique and complex world. Nonetheless, I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Bells of Tomorrow chapter 6 . 6/6/2009
Pardon my french here, but holy sh*t - how has it taken me THIS LONG to find this story! This is so fantastic. *Absolutely* fantastic. The world you've created here is so fascinating. Heart breaking, but fascinating. You can picture everything going on with perfect clarity, not to mention your dialogue is extremely well written. I just read this story all in one go, so I'm having trouble remembering what parts of it struck me the most. Well first - I loved how when JD woke up (the first time around) he walked in and examined Perry, and how long it took Dr. Cox to realize that it wasn't a dream. Love how you've incorporated all of the children in here as well, including secondary characters like Dan. (Who I'm very glad wasn't killed, but am very, very curious as to who was the person that was unfortunately executed) I love the way you write JD and Perry's relationship too. Him saying "Baby" like that was just wonderful. I think Perry using endearing nicknames like that in a slash pairing between them is very hard to pull off while still being in character/realistic, but you managed to do it quite nicely. What else, what else - oh, that's right...I will confess right now that I teared up when JD was blindly calling out Perry's name, saying that he wanted him, and Perry was right there holding his hand, and JD didn't even know it; how helpless Dr. Cox must have felt... It was heartbreaking to read, so I was happy to continue on and see him awake. Anyway, this is a really wonderful story so far, and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter.
