I will say this quite bluntly: As a person who admires all aspects of HTF canon and fandom alike, this story is, (in my opinion), not only the best integration of the two, but by far the most creative.

The portrayal of each character, (with special emphasis on Flippy), has been handled with such care and intelligence that other fan fiction seems dry in comparison. All four chapters are a knock-out, no joke. They hit home, and they hit HARD. The second chapter even had me in tears.

And so, I beg you, I plead with you, as inactive as you are, for whatever personal reason: Please, continue this story.

This is the first time I've read fanfiction in a LONG time.
I found the title and it simply clicked with me. You see, I've always been a sucker for "How did X end up here and why are they this way?"
Now on to the review.
I have yet to actually read any other than Russell's story... Apologies.
This back-story is rather different from what I've imagined, but it proves a pretty good alternative, as mine is one that's tailored for the human version, and this one has the right amount of fantasy for the Tree-verse. That's my problem, I guess - I humanize every talking animal that isn't a pokemon and focus on THOSE versions for any fancreativity ;. (What, interested in hearing my version? Sorry, mates, but ye have 'ta wait... besides, I'm better at composing and drawing, especially the further, than writing...)
Either I'm too easily surprised, or I had several reasons to say "Holy shit" during the reading. Like when he became the captain... Good god how dared he do that? (I can't tell whether I mean that in a good or bad way myself, sadly)
It's rather creative to let Sniffles and Handy be his first contacts with the main characters! And now that you think about it, they could easily make an architect/worker team. Opening up new possibilities, I see..!
"A few quick sword slashes later, he was disarmed, quite literally." This is one thing I liked with the text. At the same time as it kept a slightly more somber spirit, there's some comic value in everything.
The only thing that I think you might have missed out... This is just a question.
You know Get Whale Soon? When Russell went crazy like he did at "Suddenly, he just started laughing uncontrollably. His eye turned grey and he kept laughing, manically, thrashing the water with his hook."?
I know that I'm probably the only one obsessed with that episode enough to actually bother asking this, but how do you explain him going mad after Lumpy's death? It's not that I don't have any explanation myself, I do, I was just curious whether you had any idea that tied in with this story.
Overall, I apologize for this review for being self-centric and tell you that it's a good read so far! Though I guess I'll have to wait with the others for my nerves' sake...

Although you may no longer be active, this section shall guide my own biography for Flaky for as long as I am here. It is detailed, yet very easy to read. It explains why she is the way she is without going overboard. While it is a LITTLE bit melodramatic, I don't really mind.

This is my canon as far as Flaky is concerned.

Your writing style flows very well, there are minimal if any errors to spelling, and I didn't cringe even once while reading it because of quality issues! I really enjoyed reading your take on Flippy's slow descent into duality, especially because you kept so beautifully to the canon and didn't gloss over the fact that he is in fact a genuinely good person at heart (one heart, anyway) just to get to the violence and the gore, or to pair him with some silly little nit of an OC.

Once again, THANK YOU so very much for writing this. You are extremely talented and I will now move on to reading the rest of the chapters in this fic. Please keep writing, in whatever form you choose to take. :D
