If Sam did try to do this in the actual show, your depiction of it is how it would actually go. I like especially how in character they are, as some people are off when it comes to the many Mystery Spot fics I’ve read. Well done!

its funny, I was just thinking of that. I read a fic where one day Sam didn't bother to get up. Makes sense right? He spent over a hundred Tuesdays trying to save him- he needed a break once, get some sleep. Recharge.

Anyway, today I was thinking that maybe he should have tried killing himself and see if that stopped the stupid time loop. They always sacrificed themselves for their brother, surely he would have tried this time, if it save Dean, why not?
