Sad but amazing. I can actually see the Master doing this. It nearly had me in tears, but I did have a bit of a fangirl moment when Jack had the same birth month as me.

Wow! Great story! I like the form of it, the 'bookends' of him coming back to Torchwood, and flashing back like that. I like the months thing, and the variation-it fits the Master so well, all of it, from leaving him to starve and telling him like a 'oh, well' thing, then showing up and eating in front of him, to not showing up for a while, to killing him 18 times in 2 day to vent. And what he does to the team as well. Poor Torchwood Three! Poor Ianto! And poor Jack- the way you described him watching what happened to Ianto was heart-wrenching. And I really, really liked the 'in front of the Doctor' thing, with Jack trying to look and smile at first, and the Doctor understanding even when he can't, and then them both just closing themselves off like that. Wonderfully written. And then the end, all casual, as thought to bely all the horror, which, of course, never happened at all for them. Thanks!

aw i've read this 15 times and it still makes me upset! Poor Jack, Owen died on his birthday as well! How awfull!

Oh... so beautifully written. I really felt Jack's emotions through this. The deaths of his team were horrible, but Jack's reactions were always realistic. Wonderfully written. Will haunt me for a while.

Although this is so painful, it's very nicely written. These wre my favorite lines:

"Sometimes he couldn't manage it, but the Doctor would always nod at him as if he understood the small gesture of reassurance Jack was trying to convey."

"They're fine Jack! Gwen, Tosh, Ianto… they all got away… it was only me that got caught and Ianto says-"

They really sum up how horrible the Year was for Jack. Poor guy. :( I really liked how you broke it up into sections by the months. Great job.

Damn! In all it's simplicity, this was damn fan-ta-stic! (And that's not meant as I think what happened was great...)

I can't think what to say. Well...that was a brilliant story and I loved every line! It was great the way it went through the months of the year one by one. I really enjoyed it but I was devestated at you killing of Owen...and then Gwen...and Tosh...and Ianto. *Sobs* But it made the story stronger and more...heartbreakingly beautiful.

I do love a bit of darkfic, and I do love the evil characters too (just can't help it).

When I saw your summary, I just had to read this fic, because it's a brilliantly wicked idea, and you didn't disappoint me. Of course, the Master would round up the members of Torchwood and torment Jack with them. If only because he'd know it'd be an ideal way to torture the Doctor.

Poor Jack! But very in character for the Master. Thank you for sharing.

I ony wish it had been just a little bit longer to make full use of the emotional attachment of the reader to the members of torchwood, and Jack's anguish upon his return and the thought of seeing the team again, though I can understand this being quite draining to write as it is.
