Reviews for Remington Steele: Cold Steele Honesty
WhiteFeather1965 chapter 1 . 6/18/2014
Brilliant! This story has good flow and believable characters and situations. When writing a story like this and knowing these characters as intimately as you do, you have to ask yourself: Would Remington Steele really do that or react that way? Would Laura really say this or do that? That's what makes this story so believable. Keep up the good work. Hope this continues soon. Really stoked for the next chapter.

Great story! And a wonderfully creative rework of Bonds! I could absolutely see this happening and think it would have made for an interesting way to end the series, or have it continue - either by the network or fanfic. You write the characters so very well!
Guest chapter 1 . 1/25/2013
Though I don't enjoy stories that have them running (it's just not believable to me) this was well thought out, executed and written. Sad that there won't be a sequel.
Guest chapter 1 . 11/6/2012
Great story! Love how you reworked Bonds and that he came clean with Laura about his crazy plan to marry Clarissa! Very unique spin and it worked so well! As someone else commented, he was leading Laura's life for the past 4 years and now the tables are turned! So glad that she decided to go with him!

Liz,

Nicely done. Your characterizations of Laura and Remington were very solid. The only thing that didn't fit for me was this: She had never expected that she and he would get married or have any kind of normal life with 2.5 and a dog. She was ok with that. It was OK that he wouldn't marry her, because he wouldn't marry anyone – it was nothing personal. Hell, she had no intention of getting married either – to him or anyone else. If you go back to season 2, in "Blood is Thicker than Steele" and "Steele Sweet on You" Laura confides in both eps that she would like to have a husband and family. IMO the conflict of her desires and her perception of his not wanting(or never having had) any normal kind of family life is a large part of her holding back in the series. The story is still delightfully clever with ties back to the season 4 ending and I agree with others that it would have been a much more satisfying conclusion. Thanks for writing.
Amy chapter 1 . 4/21/2011
I'm leery of any scenario in which circumstances force Laura to give up the agency, but this works for me.

While it's just a TV show, I still have a fairly vivid memory of staring, mouth agape, at my television after Bonds of Steele ended, truly aghast at how my beloved characters went out. The tacked-on final "season" certainly didn't do much to set things right.

This story, on the other hand, does make it right. This is the relationship I recognize. It's also a rather ingenious ending in its open-ended nature; sort of like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" tale in which one can imagine them flitting around the world collecting finder's fees or ultimately returning to clear their names as detectives. Like you, I couldn't imagine how they'd realistically progress after the series ended. With this scenario, I can.

I am just dipping my toes into this fandom (loved the show back in the 80s), and was happy to find this story. It puts a much more realistic spin on Remington's predicament in "Bonds of Steele," and I liked that there were still points of connection (the fishing boat, for example).

My favorite moment was in their hotel room: "How about we just stop talking?" etc.-I could really hear their voices in that exchange, and it was a clever, fun way to leave the scene.

Thanks for a very enjoyable read!

I enjoyed reading this story very much. I thought you captured the essence of their characters very well. Your sequel (Real Steles) was also very good but I wanted to comment on this one because of the way you were able to incorporate pieces of the last episodes in an entirely different scenario. I also didn't like the way the series ended, but in my opinion, the series had been very silly for quite some time. There were some good episodes here and there to be sure, and the acting was always top-notch. However I was always a little irriated when I thought about what the show could have been if it just had good, consistent writing. At least through fan-fic that can be remedied. It wasn't hard for me at all to imagine PB and SZ as R and L saying and doing what you wrote in your story.
nameless and forgotten chapter 1 . 2/23/2008
aw this is so good!

An ending similar to this one would've been so much better for the show *sigh*
B chapter 1 . 1/20/2008
excellent . . .this is how the series should have ended!
bostonbarmaid chapter 1 . 1/15/2008
This was an immensely enjoyable read for me. Thank you SO much for writing this very bitter, very sweet and very original ending to the show. I love it. It makes me happy and sad all at once and, had it played out like this on TV, would surely have been much more satisfying and intriguing to watch then what we got. It seems oddly fitting that after having lived Laura's kind of life for four odd years, now they would be living his kind of life for a while. I really, really like the fact that you left them in a tabula rasa kind of situation, without Tony or Mildred or anyone/anything. "Just think of the possibilities!"
kathy chapter 1 . 1/11/2008
Wow, this is a completely new take on this. And I have to say, I love it! So, when do we get the sequel? Can't leave us hanging like this. If begging will help, picture me down on my knees. Or maybe bribery? I can send chocolate...

This is still my all-time favorite TV show. Could you tell? Never tire of watching it, or reading fanfic about it.
Shadow Cat17 chapter 1 . 1/10/2008
I really loved this one-shot. Two years ago I brought seasons 1-5 because like you I loved Remmingtion Steele. I was so disappointed with seasons 4 and 5, especially season 5, the fact that the wedding was a scamm, killed me. So thank you for writing this one-shot.
Zucht chapter 1 . 1/10/2008
Great story! I really enjoyed reading it!

I love the new monikers! I watch the Thin Man movies at least twice a year!
MJ chapter 1 . 1/10/2008
This was probably one of the best stories I had read regarding Remington Steele Finale. It was great the way you took the episode and reworked it. The ending was great and left so many possibilities.

I do hope you continue with this series and if not, I look forward to possibly more RS stories from you.
