Reviews for Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness
FanonOverCanon chapter 11 . 8/21/2018
From long before the first war until he was killed by Arthas at the Sunwell, King Anasterian was the leader of the blood/high elves.
FanonOverCanon chapter 9 . 8/21/2018
Sylvanas was the Ranger-General during the Second War, and her mother Lireesa was Ranger-General before her. There's also no lore to suggest that Sylvanas was ever married.
Akodo1 chapter 39 . 2/2/2018
First of all I feel any grammatical failure English is not my native language.

This fanfiction is undoubtedly much superior to the official one. Not that it is a little better is that the difference in quality between one and another is so wide that I feel bad for those who bought the novel. Lucky that a friend lends it to me.

Although with some changes in some details the work is really well done, and even manages to reflect the horror of the war and the difficulties of it decently.

Some small details do not fit, some characters disappear and some changes are very abrupt in certain situations. Once again I have seen many official novels that make it much, much worse. The defects of this work are small and rare, its many and great successes.

In the end it is a great adaptation, I almost dare to call it excellent. At first he felt a little weak Aerth too perfect and competent, although his victories were achieved through pure willingness to sacrifice lives without mercy. Up to that point the work was, for me, just decent and little more, nothing exceptional. Then Mirvane said it was all too easy and that's when I knew it was going to be much, much better and it was worth it to get to that point and move on and it was right, it was an incredible reading.

In the end my only problem is Argal. Always invincible and unbeatable, triumphing always comfortably at all times without hardly appearing to have to strive, without having the conflict that others show when sacrificing troops to achieve success. Even surpasses and ambushes the same Ranger-General without costing much.
Too perfect and always totally triumphant in everything he does at all times. I even had prepared a safe shelter all the time, although it is never mentioned previously and by supeusto that also works perfectly. It would have been nice to have lost only once at some time.

I wonder if in the official campaign the power difference between Horde and Alliance was as great as it was in your novel, for me he never felt as desperate in the game or in the nvoelas as he was in the fanfic. But regardless of why it served its purpose to present the Horde as an apocalyptic threat that could exterminate all life not orca of the eastern kingdoms. The hypocrisy of Doomhammer (and by extension Argal and all those who want to bring the orcs back to the good old days but have no problems in committing or attempting to commit genocide and exterminating men and women and annihilating entire cities) is perfectly well represented, returning the orcs to what they were to save them from their own stupidity by accepting blood of deminium, etc ... But first exterminate all the natives and keep their lands, in short, he got what he deserved. As for Argal or Gelmar, humans had to come to remind them that they could be more than bloodthirsty monsters, which I suppose is appropriate. Because Argal reconcoe at the end nucna escaped the thirst for blood, were enslaved all the time while they deceived themselves and justified their atrocities hypocritically and it was not because they could not free themselves, could at all times, but basically did not want, they wanted the easy way, war, massacre, triumph and conquest. They wanted to prove their superiority and domination, that they were superior, and by supeusto, they wanted, although they did not recognize war and conflict although they disguised it with false justifications.

Poorglade also shows how difficult it is, as Lothar said, not to become a bloodthirsty monster in the middle of the war by giving an adequate counterpoint on the side of the Alliance, though much less brutal.

Apart from that I would have liked to see some things a little more detailed, more of some characters, some battles a little more extended, but that's just tastes and personal preferences. Nothing that detract from the quality of this story.

But it is only a personal thing. As I said, this is a masterpiece and vastly surpasses the official work and any other work that I have seen regarding history.

Even if Beyond of the Dark Portal is incomplete it will be worth reading just because of the level of writing I have seen in this work.
Evident Disaster chapter 1 . 9/4/2012
As a 2 year writer and long term fan of much Warcraft, i must say you've done a truly amazing piece of work, by far this is the best story i have read in a while. I do wish that i could actually read this just on my PC. Do you have a complete collection? For download?
Anthony chapter 9 . 11/6/2009
This is great. One of the best stories I've read

Just one thing though. Sylvanas is the second sister of the Windrunner family and Alleria is actually the oldest.

Apart from that everything is great I can't wait to read more.
bahamut9999 chapter 1 . 5/6/2009
I just finished World of Warcraft: Tides of Darkness by Aaron Rosenburg and this novelization beats it out of the water. You should of had this published for Blizzard rather than Rosenburg. I would have paid money to read this.
DarkShinji250 chapter 36 . 4/20/2009
I do not think that anyone else could have covered the Battle of Blackrock Spire as well as you did. Admittedly one of the best chapters that I have read from this story.

So far, your retelling of Warcraft II has been dead on. Most of the details are correct, except for a few minor details that were rendered incorrect by the World of Warcraft and Warcraft I. Overall, very accurate and I like how you bring in future characters as well, such as Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider and Sylvanas Windrunner.

Your description of when Turalyon went mad with grief and rage reminded me of something from the sci-fi show Babylon 5. It reminded me of when Satai Delenn ordered the death of the human race. The Minbari leader, Dukat, had been killed and she went mad as well, ordering their forces to kill all the humans.
the-reborn-soul chapter 17 . 4/20/2008
Another thing I'm seeing (no offense), but after Bonus Profile #7, they've all been #7 up to now.
the-reborn-soul chapter 3 . 4/20/2008
Hello, sir.

First off, big fan, have been ever since I read your story the first time round. I hope you the next episode of Beyond the Dark Portal soon!

Okay, on to my review. I was reading it again, and I noticed a small error on this chapter; the chapter title. You have, in the text, the chapter and title for Chapter 1, instead of Chapter 2. Just a mild comment. I really do love your story, it just...got me.
Dreadman chapter 1 . 9/21/2007
God bless you man. GOD BLESS YOU!

Although I love BOTH Warcraft 3 and its expansion, along with World of Warcraft, WC 2 will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. It introduced me to this great RTS series, and to Blizzard in general. They made something new and exciting: One of the first fantasy RTSs with ships with cannons, flying machines, yet still have the main arial units be Gryphon's and Dragons. The lore, captivating. The story, GRIPPING. The gameplay? Do I NEED to comment on the gameplay?
illidans sevant chapter 1 . 1/24/2007

Hoopmasta14 chapter 1 . 5/28/2006

Trance Seraph chapter 1 . 11/8/2005
My admiration for this retelling of Warcraft must not be understated.

It is the most awesome, marvelously well-written piece of Warcraft history retelling that simply must be granted the honor of being published and novelization.
entertheBOOM chapter 1 . 10/3/2005
Im nearly speechless...where did you learn to write man! Get published now! This...this is marvelous. I only intended to read maybe a chapter or two and before i knew it was nearly done. Masterful job
C. Shannon chapter 39 . 5/23/2005
I just finished it and I must say, Im dead impressed. One thing, however, the part with the "blood pact" and the demons could have used som more background info, for those who dont know Warcraft I. I very much liked the aspects of getting corrupted by power the humans getting drawn into bloodlust during the war. Ill certainly watch out for other stories of you.
