I would argue that Dumbledore is the living embodyment of the saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

He MEANS well. But it comes from a place of guilt. He wanted to rule over the muggles with his BFF Grindewald because he thought wizards were better than them and they clearly needed to be ruled by benevolent overlords.

He still thinks wizards are better than muggles btw. But he went animal activist, realizing muggles needed a sheppard, not a dictator.

(You can see that belief in how he talks and acts in everything muggle-related. Plus, humans rarely, if ever, change. Not fundementally. Not without hard work and alot of self-help books. And barely even then.)

He sent Harry to Petunia for BOTH their sakes. Harry for protection, Petunia for a change of redemption.

Again, he does not see past his own nose. HE wants, no, NEEDS redemption, so he tries to redeem everyone else.

Except Tom. I would argue Voldemort was a product of his enviorment. How can you love when nobody ever have loved you? Classic sociopath -CREATED, not born.

Dumbledore COULD have reached out and saved him, he did not. He realised it too late and overcompensate with being TOO involved with Harry. (Also partly to correct his mistake with Tom.)

As for the Cup: Magic Contracts CANNOT be that binding. Otherwise the world would dance to Voldemort's tune, pureblood fanatics would have a harem of mudblood slaves, politicians...don't even get me started!

Harry is there because;
1. Voldenort wants him there.
2. Fudge don't want to look like a fool, and neither do any other ministry idiots, and refuse to acknowledge it COULD be a mistake.
3. Dumbledore fully bealieves the prophecy, and NEEDS Harry to meet Voldie, in hope he will kill him.

Some parts are lost in the blurr of timeline. Specifically; WHEN do dumbles learn that Harry needs to die?

Dumbledore has NEVER killed ANYONE before. (Except the MAYBE his sister by accident, a thought that haunts him to this day) and he CANNOT kill an innocent child himself. Nor make anyone else do it. (Tainting their soul and whatnot.)

But Harry still needs to die. Preferably by Voldemorts hand. (Although it IS possible nobody BUT Voldemort can kill him. Aside from basilisk venom or the sword of gryffindor. Horcrux and all.)

ANYONE can find and destroy the horcruxes. But dumbles is obsessed with the prophecy.

And as any psychologist know; The higher the price you paied for doing something was, and/or the more you invest in it, the stronger you believe it was the right thing to do. The ONLY right thing to do. (Which is why Cult beliefs are so hard to escape from. No matter how illogical or stupid.)

I could go on...

The list is long as a bad year. Every single action he took, he made out of kindness and a desperate need for redemption.

Always thinking HE knew best. (As is normal for most humans.) And convinced that he learned so much because he made so many mistakes.

Sirius - He deep down knew, but it was convinient that he went to jail. And he most likely told himself that even without being the betrayer, he still killed all those muggles. So what can he really do? Sirius would still be send to prison for life. He refuse to listen to the nagging suspicion he may be innocent, because he needs Harry to be with his aunt.

He is a complex man, but driven by a pure 'goodness'. And, like all 'selfless' and 'kind' people, he does it purely because it makes HIM feel better about himself. Lessening his guilt. Being able to tell himself he is a good person, and so on.

Anyway. Incredibly truncated psychoanalyze of dumnledore aside...

All very Slytherin on Harry's part isn't it? As for noticing that Fumblemort cast the Fidelius Charm, I did but I never read the books. It took me several years but I realized it and then realized he wasn't even close to being any kind of light! I see him as the Primary Dark Lord of the Late twentieth to early twenty-first centuries. Think Grindelwald. Then there's the fact with Voldemort gone, who's gonna challenge him that he's gonna have to show the power levels he did before? Add to that all the people that owe him favors or he has blackmail material on. You really can't expect him to simply fade away after being in the spotlight for decades! No, he would retain control over Harry's life for as long as he could. Snape would continue to destroy Potions class and deny the magical the people it needs for various jobs. He's been at it for close to two decades with the blessing of Fumblemort.
