I like the twist to John's personality of letting Sam go and Dean being the bull-headed one about it. I also like that Abigail's grandmother was a ghost.

I loved your story, it's a nice change to read about John supporting Sam about school.

Oh I really liked this fic...*nods* yes, I did...there are so many things right with it (at least in my book anyways) that I don't know where to start! LOL.

You had a nice twist on the whole 'letting Sam go to college thing' that didn't turn John into a bad guy...this fic is kind of the quiet before the storm, huh? The hurt Sammy in the end was what got to me, and I *loved* how you had Dean put aside his anger when Abby got on the phone...speaking of which, I also really liked Abby's character as well-the fact that Sam saw her grandmother and she knew it was a nice addition, as the fact that she actually believed Sam when he told her what it was that he and his family did...Sam needs more Abby-like friends I think...~ lol. Kudo's on a very nicely done one shot, esp a long one shot...I think I just might have to add this one to my favorites...

This was ... good. I liked this. I mean, a fic where John isn't ALL that against Sam going to college? Yeah. It works.

And the girl? Yeah. Works too, strangely enough.

I really enjoyed the entire piece, but I'll have to say the part that pushed it over the top towards brilliant for me, was the ending banter. I don't know why, but it caught me just right...the tone of the brothers pitch-perfect.

Loved this part especially:

“I still love you, though.” Sam smiled.

“Huh.” Dean frowned, a grin dancing on his mouth. “Guess I’d better work on my game-plan a little more.”

“You have a plan?” Sam echoed in amusement, “Did it come in a box with ACME written on it?”

“Good one, bitch.” Dean sniggered, flipping his brother the middle finger of one hand. “No, this is my future investment. Piss off little brother so he wants nothing to do with me or the inheritance.”

“In - ” Sam gasped in amused shock, “You mean the car?”

“Don’t speak of her like that!” Dean gasped in horror, “And - yes - the car. The arsenal. The knowledge. The legacy. The fame.”

Sam clutched his chest and laughed loudly.

“Yup.” Dean sighed confidently, “Laugh it up, long-legs. You’ll see.”

“Oh, I can’t wait.” Sam wheezed, still giggling.

I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this story. The different take on John, Sam's leaving and Dean's hurt over it was such a nice change. I loved your showing the caring side of John. The one that is proud of Sam's success even if it hurts John to lose him. I even loved Dean's anger over it because I can understand how it's easier to push someone away in anger than to accept losing them. I loved that John tried to give Sam the option to have it both ways by doing online studies, although I can understand Sam's need to leave. You did a beautiful job on this story.

I just have to say too, that this line made me choke back a couple of tears.

"And in that moment he really had understood. For the first time, he had felt the love that for all these years he had interpreted as obsession, control and stubbornness. He saw that his father was simply terrified of losing him and the weight of Sam’s remorse suddenly seemed unbearable."

I'll never understand why some amateurish stories get 100 reviews and some real gems like this sit quietly unnoticed! Hope you won't let keep you from writing and posting more!

Great story.

A refreshing change to the usual 'John is not going to let Sam goto college' gig. Your 'John' seems sadder and more in touch with his sons feelings, though just as deadly when it comes to dealing with evil.

The whole story flows well, and I enjoyed reading it.

Awesome story, after reading this, you kind of have to forgive John for worrying about what would happen to Sam if he was aqway from the family and they couldn't keep an eye on him-gives proof to the fact that Sammy could be hurt if no one was there to watch his back!
