I'm not sure if I commented on this story before, I have reread it I think a couple times. I have to agree with your reasoning on writing it from Shizuru's pov as I have always been a fan of hers as well as her pairing with Natsuki. I have also felt the pain of rejection as a young adult, but it drove me the think in a different kind of pain. But I had the most beautiful love ripped and torn from me by fate and for that I hated the world and everything about it. Though I doubt I could reach the level Shizuru did, it was not from wanting. I had lived with torture and pain since I was a small child and this love was very precious to me, more than breathing itself. Had I not had some empathy inside me, who knows what a person could/would do in such circumstances. I can't tell you how much I appreciated your treatment of Shizuru. Most people only look at the end result without considering everything about Shizuru's life and feelings. You have done that so very well here. This is a story I keep that I will read and read again and never tire of it. I see you don't post much anymore, but hopefully you will be able to write every now and then. It is a shame that I don't think there is as many good series now like there was in the past, though I am glad that there is more acceptance of showing gay main characters in anime/manga than there was in the past, though it seems that gay male situations have come forth faster and/or easier than yuri. Thanks again and if I have commented on this before, please forgive my memory issues!

Wonderfully written! I just finished watching Mai HiME this past weekend. While I wasn't crazy about the angst of the show I couldn't get enough of Shizuru and Natsuki. Your portrayal of Shizuru gave her such dimension, you made her human, with real feelings and concerns. I wish all fan fiction were written as well as this one, it was thought provoking, humble and sweet without being angst-filled. I hope one day I attain this level of expertise you've displayed. Well done. :)

I really enjoyed this, Bryan. Shame SUNRISE couldn't do this in the show due the subject matter, but that's what us fanficers are for. Anyways, sorry it took me this long to review it. I must of read this whole story at least twenty times so far from beginning to end. Both Natsuki & Shizuru are lucky to have found each other when they did.
