I absolutely adore stories like this, exquisite oneshots focusing on characters we've never even considered in the slightest, and yet still so incredibly tragic and heartfelt.

So apparently, the review I intended to post when I finished this didn't post itself, so I'm just going to reread it and write another review, because you deserve it!

I love how you focused this story on characters we don't usually (if at all) focus on: Dorcas's parents. I love how you included her, and most of all, I love the end of the paragraph saying "the newborn, the toddler, the little girl, the teenager, the young woman, the warrior".

I love how tragic this is, you made me cry of course, but I didn't mind because this was a FANTASTIC one-shot! And now I'm going to have to read more of your stories, because if they're all as good as this, it's worth it :)

I first read this story around 2009 and it blew me away. Now I'm 23, on my last semester of graduate school, and I had a strange urge to look up this story again. After all these years it still makes me teary - the part about biting toast into a circle still gets me maudlin.

I want to tell you how grateful I am for writing these! Your rendition of Dorcas Meadows is as real to me as any character created by J.K. Rowling; your stories are Harry Potter canon in my heart, and rereading them feels like coming back to a precious book from childhood.

This was stuningly beautiful. You make me wish that we had learned more about Dorcas and her life, but then again, I dont think even Rowling could have made her better than you have. You brought her to life through her parents forgotten memories, this was absolutely perfect. Another favorite of mine for sure. :)

This made me realize what would have happened if Hermione hadn't made it. Not knowing always scared me. Imagine that. You get flashes of your past life you don't know about. Sad but beautifully written.
