Hm. So Yusuke's canon gets transplanted to Keiko. I usually like stories that feature more of her, shes supposed to be very important to Yusuke, but I'm not sure how I feel about this. I've read one too many stories now where Yusukes history and characterizations with the other characters is erased for the sake of some other character. Usually nothing about it is really different either, it's kind of insulting, its just handed off to make some other character special but not changed to this new character. I hate that, the change becomes disingenuous and frivolous.
It's fine if Keiko gets Yusuke's "job" but at least change events! The English dub liked prattling on about how smart she is in middle school, but she does the exact same thing Yusuke did!

And her reason for becoming the new Yusuke is pretty shallow. Eight year old her didnt like how one of her friends was treated in school, so she grows up and becomes a thug? What? She can throw a decent punch, presumably because she smacked Yusuke around when he goofed too far, but shes no fighter. You had to completely change her character in order to get her to fit Yusukes role, and that's pretty irritating.
It would have made way more sense for the Kuwavara siblings to fill Yusukes spot instead, THATS certainly never been done before.

Yusuke became the way he was because nothing in his life was going good. He grew up in domestic violence, reportedly bit his father's ankles when he smacked Atsuko around, up until he left the family. His mother had him in middle school and had to drop out, they live in the seedier side of town (not right next to the Yukimura diner as you placed for some reason), Atsuko has yakuza affiliations, gets drunk and stays out for days, likely leaving Yusuke home alone without food. He tries going to school but the students give him a hard time and the teachers hate him, no one but Keiko cares about his academic success so he stops trying. He has no good role model, he smokes, drinks, gambles, shoplifts, cusses, plays hooky, gets in to way too many fights, etc.
Meaning to say, Yusuke had huge reasons for turning out the way he did. Comparatively, Keiko doesnt. Both her parents work, but they live above their job (as restaurant owners) so they arent totally absent and their business is successful. Theres no money trouble, they both love and support her, even when she was friends with Yusuke; theres no domestic violence, she does well in school, shes well-liked by teachers and students, she has other friends besides Yusuke. There is no reason for her to be Replacement Yusuke other than something arbitrary, like a shittier attitude.
She even admits her reason for ceasing to be Keiko and becoming Replacement Yusuke was forgotten; she hated the way others treated him, but forgot what he looked like and even his name (even though you had the Urameshis right next door).
It was all just a hamfisted way of completely changing her until shes unrecognizable and wearing Kim Possible outfits to show off her eight pack.

Least liked change so far and it's one of the biggest ones, and it'll be sticking around. I was getting nervous when you kept focusing on her even though she has no reiki to speak of and no fighting spirit that wasn't defense motivated. So I guessed you were going to make her Spirit Detective like other fanfics and the English dub kept harping about, I didnt know she wasn't even going to be Keiko though.
Really would have much preferred the Kuwabara siblings. At least they both kick ass as is and didnt have to get a complete makeover to be cool or useful. And they're both already naturally gifted psychics, unlike Keiko who had to steal Yusuke's backstory.

I guess I could stop reading if it gets too irritating. Not gonna lie though, had us in the first chapter. Yusuke being picked up by his demonic relative is something I've seen only once in a oneshot.
Unless you nerfed him, Yusukes going to be too powerful for early season Team Urameshi. Pretty much what I'm reading on for at this point - how you handle Yusukes increasing power.

Why, why is this fanfic over. It's so great. One of the best Yu Yu Hakusho fanfics ever. Please reconsider. I really wanna see what happens next. Please.

This story was so good! I loved reading about delinquent Keiko, but why doesn't Yusuke tell her it's him? Is he just being a jerk or what? Also please do include him in the tournament if you continue this story, and what's going to happen with Togoro? Will he target Keiko or Yusuke? I really enjoyed this story and hope you continue this soon! Please don't let such awesome writing go to waste!
