Reviews for Where Eagles Dare
Brenna chapter 12 . 4/15
Seriously seriously your writing is genius. The way you capture everyone in a perfect way, and add to the characters. And your knowledge. Also, I laughed hysterically about the 'straightening the tower of pisa' bit. BRILLIANT lol. Seriously thank you for existing and creating this.
TheOldMasters chapter 12 . 9/16/2016
I've read through all your stories linked (directly or peripherally) into the ThunderEagles 'verse, but I felt posting the review to this would be the most appropriate. In a word: brilliant. I have not ever read another author who can depict aerial warfare in such a realistic manner and yet still manage to impart to the reader a good understanding of what was going on. Your use of real life and historical events as parts of your storyline only enhance your history-based approach to these stories, which particularly reverberates with me as history is my favorite subject by far.
It is true: doing this in the Kim Possible 'verse? Rather strange. And yet, I cannot see Ron as being anything else other than a Thunder Eagle now. It just somehow fits his character and provides him with an avenue of growth that really does work for him and his own, personal story within the 'verse.
One issue that really nagged at me, however, is Ron's Mystical Monkey Powers. As this is set after the Lowardian Invasion, his powers are known to some degree - which means the Thunder Eagles (and GJ) must know. But there's no interest in it whatsoever. While I am often a prime believer in practice makes perfect being applied to even magical things, whether or not that actually is valid - something you suggested isn't, as the self-sentient power activates when it feels Ron is in utter danger - comes later. Couldn't there have been some sort of inter-service tug-of-war over whether to approach Ron about it? Ideas for studying or trying to help him figure out a way to marshal some semblance of control over it? And then perhaps on the other side, Ron (and Kim, the Possibles, Yamanouchi School, Sensei) being nervous, trying to not use it or think about it at all, wondering why nobody's said anything when it was publicly used to save the world.
Not to mention, I feel as though there should be some sort of confrontation between Ron and the Stoppable parents - after their son glowed blue and singlehandedly defeated an alien invasion and then proceeded to disappear for 3 months and suddenly become an air force officer.
I don't know if you're still lurking about here or have moved on. But while you brought the Thunder Eagles 'verse to a end in Rise of Rhodigan, I would be very, very interested in... a rewrite! That's not to say your writing is bad though. In particular, you can definitely stretch out the original story, Where Eagles Dare, to being a far more intensive, detailed, and yet high-spirited offering with a simple matter: Ron (or anyone, really) being fully trained in carrier-based aerial fighter operations as well as decently trained in most every other form of aerial combat as well as basics of naval and army doctrine, machinery, and combat in just 3 months?! You could stretch out the isolation - and thus the growing up and self-realizations needed on both party's parts - far longer to provide more depth of emotion (and yes, the space for far more looks into various military history, strategy, and equipment, I admit). As well as perhaps address parts of the Mystical Monkey Powers and his own parents as well...

Just sayin, once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout.

Just a quick question.
When Ron's F-14 canopy is "only inches apart" from the transport plane, wouldn't its tail fins be hitting said transport?
I mean the fins rise so much higher than the canopy.
Just a thought

Very good story,

I've been going through some of your works, but until now I didn't review much. So I'm trying to catch up.

Great work on describing Ron becoming a flight jock, even though it meant such an emotional distressing period for Kim. But end well, all well.

Even Mr. Barkin has to turn down a notch against the new Ron, and that's saying something.

I also enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the planes and various weaponry very much. It really shows your own dedication to this.

keep up the very good writing that you do,

Even thought I've already read the next parts... I forgot to leave a review, so I'm here to undo my wrong-doings. Great story, Nutzkie. Again, thanks a lot for your effort and keep up the awesome work. _

Nutzkie...

All I can say is...wow. I am positively floored by your writing. I loved watching KP as a kid, and you bring it back to life in a way that is so vivid...so real.

The progression of Ron in the story is amazing, heartfelt, but also very believable. Though you say you are not a writer in this way, you sell yourself short. I found myself getting completely lost in this, feeling what Ron and Kim were feeling. You do an outstanding job of placing the reader in their shoes.

That my friend, is the mark of a gifted writer. One that can make things so vivid. The descriptions and just...everything brought this story to life, as you have with many others.

Thank you!

First off I have to ask, are you a former member of the US Navy or Air Force? Your technical detail is incredible, to the point where I needed to have Wikipedia up in another window to keep up! :) What you've managed to do with this story is take the parts of Kim Possible that we fans all love: great characters, funny plots, quirky dialogue, and hilarious adventures, and combined into a wonderful story with action and a moving plot about two lovers yearning for each other. Genius, pure genius!

P.S. According to your profile you're the same age as me. It's nice to see another thirtysomething guy who's into "kids shows"
Muzzlehatch chapter 4 . 8/5/2009
Back in 1967, when I was going to St. Mary's College near Orinda, California, the USAF brought a T-38 to the campus as a recruiting tool and set it up in front of the dorms. The next morning it was found in the main parking lot a hundred yards away completely wrapped in toilet paper. I heard that the original intention was to use a crane to put it on the roof of the chapel, but the miscreants couldn't locate one.

Damn, you write god...
Muzzlehatch chapter 1 . 8/4/2009
It would have been cool if Ron had encountered a Kawasaki 100, a Ki-61 with a radial engine, probably the best Japanese fighter of the war, able to tackle Hellcats, Corsairs and even B-29s.
