PERFECTION.

I love the open ending. I feel like it'll be a never ending cycle. It will never end. BUT FIRST the review.

HA. I FINALLY RECOGNIZED THE LAST 3 QUOTES AS LINKIN PARK SONGS AND NOW I FEEL DUMB.

Moving on.

As I said in the beginning, this fic has everything I'd love to see in a NearxMisa fic. Here, it's the 'they totally love each other but they are so lying to themselves about it', but as the chapter goes on the embrace it more until they wake up one day and realize they're in love. . That bein said, I love that Misa calls Near 'Nini'. :3

The 'you can't drink' 'I have sex' bit is pure gold. That moment is the epitome of Near's social ineptness. I laughed so hard at poor Near (it may be my favorite Near moment in all of fandom; series, fanfic, or otherwise.)

Another favorite moment is...

"I vowed fidelity to you."
"You saved me from the death penalty."
Near was smirking. "I bought you those shoes."
"I give you neck messages."
"The list goes on and on."

First of all: EEEEEEEEEEPPPP! They are acting like such an old married couple and my Near/Misa shipper heart is so happy for this scene! You write them with such chemistry, if I wasn't shipping them before this fic I certainly would have been afterwards.

And of course...

"Not now..." Near run his fingers to toy with the thick panty hoes. "... not yet," he slowly pressed his two fingers on the spot he knew would stimulate her and whispered, "but soon."

Um... #HAWT Like damn Near, when did you get game? I love all the sex scenes in this fic, but this is the sexiest, I think. I just... *fans self*. Very well done. And of course I have to comment on Near and Misa getting caught. XD That whole exchange is great, and Near and Misa's reaction and interaction afterwards was cute, funny, and endearing. You can tell they are growing on one another then. :3 And those moments will be the death of me.

All in all, this is my favorite chapter. I love that Light escaped and Ryuk is now involved. My mind will be entergaining thoughts of the 'what-ifs' of this fic for a time to come. Once again, I'm so glad I found this fic again, but even happier you ever wrote it in the first place. It's been an enjoyable ride, and thank you. 3

THE PLOT THICKENSSSS.

I'm going to start off bu saying I'm not the biggest Light Yagami fan. In fact, it wasn't until I left the Death Note fandom that I grew to appreciate Light and what he was doing and understand where he is coming from. That being said, I actually really like this chapter. You put a really interesting twist on him and his relationship with his father (which really breaks my heart, considering what happens later on Dx) and you added this deepth and it made him so much more interesting and relatable for me. And my favorite quote from this is "I feel leathal, on the verge of frenzy". Not only does it carry impact, I feel those 8 words completely sum up Light, both in the fic and in the series. I'm not gonna lie, it gave me chills.

I find the Light-Yagami-Is-Alive plot twist quite interesting. :o There is so much to be explored here (and I loved the visual image of a scruffy Light Yagami. :3) The 1031 was a nice touch, and very Near-like, I must say. XD

What's not to love about this chapter? XXX is absolute perfection! I just... I don't even have words! It's a perfect clash of their personalities, yet there's something *there*, something *more* that draws them to the other, whether they realize it or are willing to admit it or not.

And OF COURSE I love all of Near's little quirks and Misa's responses and reactions to all of them (I don't know if it's just me but I think they sound like an old married couple already lol.) And I have to say, I really like how the sex was protrayed. Not only did it have Misa's experience and want vs. Near's inexperience and... lack of knowledge (which is another nice touch), but... I really liked Near's reaction at first and how he didn't think it really felt the way it was supposed to. Not only am I asexual myself, but I head canon Near (and the majority of the Death Note characters) as asexuals. I don't know. I really liked it. It's so easy to find generic smutty fic, but this? This is a breath of fresh air.

Poor Misa. I can't help but feel for her here. I love how she's portrayed. She's such a strong character and she has her emotions and her vulnerabilities and I feel that only makes her stronger. It's so nice to have a strong female character. :)

And as for Near. Poor socially inept Near. XD (Or maybe he's just using that to his advantage?) He just... couldn't be more opposite than Misa. XD

Have I mentioned how much I love the dynamic between Misa and Near? I love their interaction and not just from a shipper's stand point. Once again you handled opposing sides well, as well as the mess that is Misa and Near. It's wonderful. I feel I am reading a train wreck, but in a good way.

It's almost 4am so this review may be a little sloppy. .;

First off, I love the opening segments of each chapter. Whether they are quotes or your own words, the are beautiful and fit wonderfully to the story. Second, I am a sucker for themes and I love the religous theme and symbolism in here. It gives it an authentic feel, especially the police's perspective of Lady Justice and the thugs grafitting Bible scriptures on the wall. It feels like a human response.

Along that vein of thought, I love Misa Amane as Lady Justice and the imagery of her standing there in her pure white robes, blindfolded, amongst the death and sin of the prison and the followers. And the scene of her preparing herself and pooring the melted wax on her hands, that is the 2nd most haunting scene for me about this fic. I'm not even sure I fully understand way. Just the way you wrote it and the setting and everything she's thinking and feeling at the time... it just stuck with me.

Alrighty. The next part. (I apologizd in advanced for not being able to italicize the font or something to make it stand out, as I'm on my phone... or maybe it's because I'm not signed in, but I've no options to change the font. :/ )

"How do you label your crimes then?"

"Crusades, detective Nate River."

Not only do I appreciate the interaction between Near and Mikami, I love this little bit. I think it shows you're good at capturing both sides of the argument, whereas most people have a biases opinion and make one side look idiotic or something. I'm not certain that made any sense. .

"You and your science." Teru Mikami chuckled.

"Yes, Teru. You and your moral ideals too."

"Do not psychoanalyze me. Your cold indifference and casual sarcasm have no effect on me."

"I just really deal with things in this kind of manner," Near reasoned out. "Do forgive me if my behavior bothers you."

A.) I think this coinsides with my previous point.
B.) Even. Though. You. Write. Near. As. Cold. And. Unfeeling. You. Still. Give. Him. Personality. Thank. You. So. Much.

"This was more than a case now. A case would just fade when it was closed. No, this one will always be a case. This was also a fight till death; a fight that began seven years ago on the deserted storage room."

THIS.
This fic, this line, is when I realized poor Near would never be rid of the Kira case. There will always be followers, no matter how few, and therefore, he'll be able to fully put to rest that case, or the demons and scars inflicted by it. And it made me feel for Near all that much more. :'(

And of course, last but not least, the proposal and Misa slipping! Why does that make so much sense? Ugh, I'm so glad I found this fic again.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FIC.

Long story short, I read this fic a few years ago, and as expected, eventually forgot the title and author of the fic, though the story always remained with me. I've been on a bit of a Death Note kick lately, and decided to try and hunt this fic down. It took a bit of time (apparently googling variations of "near x misa fanfic" isn't enough) and though I was delighted to come across a few other Near/Misa fics, I wanted to read THIS one. Well, as you can see, I've found it. XD

Anyways, back to review, I absolutely love the premise of this fic and the set up as well, bouncing between the past and present, slowy giving the pieces of the puzzle (eh? eh?)

The scene with Misa and Near is just so... haunting. I love it. That moment is one that had stuck with me even after all these years. And I find Rosenburg an interesting character. He's a nice contrast to Near. :)

I look forward to rereading the rest of this fic.

First of all, I love how you started off the chapter with Light and ended it with Near. It's very metaphorical that way.

Second, the conversation Near and Misa have are the exact reason I ship them. As dofferent as they are from each other, the also share similarities. Similarities brought out by common circumstance, and similarities not easily found in another. It makes for an interesting dynamic, and I think you are portraying it beautifully.

I never imagined that a Near/Misa fic could be handled so well. You write a good Near and the whole thing is... I don't know how to describe it. Since the pairing is so unusual, I can't say realistic - I guess I can say that the story is strong. The way the characters are portrayed is so right. I'm now interested in this pairing and even see it possible. Wow.

The sex part was... amusing, to be honest. It was so systematic that I couldn't refrain from laughing. It wasn't hilarious - but it had some eerie humour in it. I still can't believe they got married and all. I can't picture Near planning to marry her. Really, that was weird but somewhat believable. Perhaps that's just you - you have a way of making things seem more believable, though I cannot go as far to say realistic, I'm still not sure about the whole marriage thing.

And the plot... Well, to say the least, it's intriguing. I'd never think that Near would make a deal with Ryuk so Light would survive. I don't get why he did it, but you were probably going to explain it - if you continued this. I really hope you do, because this is a very interesting story and I'm hooked up. I'm sure you'll write another great chapter and surprise us all again. I hope it happens soon.
