Reviews for Portrait of a Hero
broadwaybaby chapter 24 . 7/29/2009
i am in love with your story! please update! i know it has been 2 years but it's never too late! so few stories on this site are well written and grammatically correct, but yours is! the plot intrigues me! please post a new chapter (preferably about olivia's interview! i mean how could you have gotten through 24 chapters without mentioning elliot's best friend and partner?)
Bob Rhynoplasty chapter 24 . 5/23/2007
that was a really good chapter. so, who's he interviewing? also, is he ever going to tell elizabeth that he likes her? and if he does, will she reciprocate? or will she blow him off? just a few questions that i'm assuming you're going to answer. can't wait for the next update. seriously, i'm really mpatient.

I'm so glad you love reviews, because you're the only author will allow me to review! I think it's a glitch with an upgrade to Internet Explorer 7, but it's a real pain, because I can't even sign into Hotmail. Gr.

Now that I've whined, this touch of light humor, while reminding us just how ferocious Elliot can be in protecting his loved ones, is perfectly placed. You're giving us time to think about the long haul ahead for rehab, the ramifications of what's in store once he realizes his "new normal," and driving me crazy, personally, waiting for the meeting with Olivia!

I also love the sweet, slow flirtation with Elizabeth. In a way, it's a mirror of Elliot's awakening. She's gradually becoming aware of AJ as a young man, just as Elliot is gradually going to become aware of himself as a whole human being again. I love mirror stories; Defoe did a great thing when he invented them with Crusoe!

The contrast of the ugliness of how AJ and Elizabeth met vs. the innocence of their relationship now is so wonderful. Even though the world is ugly, ugly, ugly, good people and good things outnumber the bad, and you're really showing that here.

Have a great week, and I'll be waiting for more. Maybe, by the time you get back, I can actually comment on some other stories, but I'm going to do a "no-no" and give "Trip Wire" a rave. I love how Elliot is finding himself, even though he doesn't realize it. Great job, -lots more to say, but I can't post it!

I'm really loving this. I can't wait to see where this goes next...hope to see another chapter really soon. :D

And the child becomes the teacher, and the rescued becomes the rescuer. I love the way you're drawing the full circle here. You're even being kind to Candace, even though she needs to get her dainty little hands in a soup kitchen on a regular basis.

Elliot's confusion was the most believably written I have ever seen. I was so moved by the way you let us experience his awakening and discovering that five years have passed rather than his just realizing it.

I'm dying to see how you handle Olivia's meeting with A.J.; I'm not too worried about her time with Elliot, but I've wondered how she's felt about losing her partner, her best friend, even though she'd never go back and make another choice. I'm on tenterhooks.

I WISH HOTMAIL LIKED ME; EVIDENTLY WHEN I UPGRADED TO IE7, HOTMAIL GOT IN IN A SNIT. GR. I'm trying to answer mail, but hotmail won't let me in.

Bob Rhynoplasty chapter 23 . 5/11/2007
i love that you finally woke Elliot up, but now i'm worried if he's going to get better. this was a great update, and i hope you can add more soon. and by the way, thank you for dropping candace. she was too annoying.
icklebitodd chapter 23 . 5/11/2007
I'm loving this story

Fresh in its unorthdox approach and an enthralling read with its emotive chapters that lead you to become personally involved and interwinded. Fantastically written cannot wait for more, in particular the Olivia Benson interview.
Chloe chapter 23 . 5/10/2007
Okay seriously...I am going to stop reading this wonderful story if you dont tell me what happened with Olivia. I dont really care if it is EO or not. I just want some friendship in there or something! I am getting really aggrivated! You have only mentioned her once when Munch said something...Are you just not putting her veiwpoint on Elliot in this story!
detective-sweetheart chapter 23 . 5/10/2007

Dude you should get Lizzie and AJ together already. I mean he just broke up with his G/F and she needs someone to comfort her. Plus they're like so aww together.

Yay Elliot's back! Hopefully he gets all normal and stays that way now. Update soon please

BTW, I'm still waiting on my Olivia interview.
kyfrnd chapter 22 . 5/9/2007
While I HATED this last stay at the hospital and then mandatory R&R with friends who treated me as if I were made of spun glass, coming home to this story has made me very happy.

Your ability to let us know AJ as he reacts to each of Elliot's family members and friends while teaching us so much about devastating injuries is, as always, amazing. Even more amazing is how captivating the story is. I found myself cracking up when AJ first met Fin; his inner conversations are so self-revelatory, and I think I'd have that same reaction until I heard that gentle voice and saw that beautiful smile and nice dimple. I've often wondered how Ice-T managed the big, bad Rap image with that dimple.

Anyway, reading this story is like peeling layers off one of my Aunt Barbara's marzipan cakes, with one major difference. Your story is good, and I don't like marzipan cakes, because they're too sweet. :-)

Each layer is a writer's tightrope, because you're dealing with such emotional material, but your reportial technique manages to avoid any forced drama. Instead, you add to the angst by withholding your personal reactions and writing objectively.

Great OC with Candace, the rich girl we'd all love to slap. What a foil she is to Elizabeth! Same thing with Uncle Jason; another great foil to Elliot. Both of them, in their own ways, absent, but one by choice, and the other fighting so hard to return.

Thank you so much for not allowing him to wake up and be normal. I know you wouldn't do that, but thank you.

Thank you also for showing us the courtroom battle and Kathy's reasons. I agree; she loves him very much, and I await with interest how you will manage that revelation. I have my suspicions, but I love to be surprised.

Most of all, thank you for making everyone imperfect. Real characters make me come back for more, more, more.

Now I have to go find "Trip Wire" and find out how our poor guy is doing there, but my energy is depleted for tonight, so that will be tomorrow morning's special pleasure.

Again, this story is a joy to read as you show us the complexity of a man who chose to take a road less traveled, and, like your writing style, that made all the difference.

That was sad, but what I don't get is why didn't the lawyer mention it? Hmm. But I'm glad Kathy didn't pull the plug.

Good update Jo :)
