This is a strong story in its own right, but would make an even better first chapter...

Ouch! I can't imagine Harry without magic. Your plot is excellent though. It kind of made me think that Harry was a Squip all along and only had magic because he was connected to Voldemort (the way he picked up being a parselmouth). Once the connection was gone and he was no longer a horcrux of Voldemort it went away. Maybe I am overthinking things, but just saying...
Anyway, your story is well written and I enjoyed reading it.

wow. This is a fine one shot. One I'd dearly love to see stretched out longer- there's so much more story to tell, it seems. But, it ends well there, so well done :D

Guh. This was heart-breaking in a very good way. You somehow seem to make me depressed and yet happy at the same time, which is a different experience, I can tell you. Snape's line near the end about Harry having to rid himself of hatred for them to have a true conversation between the pair of them, and Harry's retort was so goddamn canonical it wasn't even funny. Wow. Thanks again for sharing. It was nice to read something well-written that was conceived before Deathly Hallows came out. Brought back some great memories of the speculation that ran rampant before the book was released :)
