Ah, this is absolutely devastating. But I mean that as the highest of compliments.

This was beautiful, and actually started me up on what's now my favorite thing. haiku.

Beautiful! I absolutely loved this. It's easy to forget that while Dean may have been the one who followed orders and acted like everything was alright, he was actually more damaged than Sam was. Because while Dean did his best to protect Sam and soften the harshness of their lifestyle for him, no one protected Dean. It's nice to get a glimpse behind Dean's defenses when he was this age, and see some of the anger and resentment that he spent his life repressing. I also really loved Sam's growing awareness and maturity, and his attempts to help his brother.

Dean's intelligence isn't like Sam's, but it's definitely there. And the way you captured his ability to find beauty and worth in the shattered, ragged pieces of his family and life was wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

Most of the time when I enjoy a fic it's because of the story or the angst or something. And this story has both of those things in abundance. But I love this one mostly because of the artistry you put into it. I'm not quite sure how to put it into words (and you probably don't want my analysis ;), but I just wanted you to know that the art of this story made it more than just entertaining.
