Reviews for The Breaking Waves
Selryam chapter 15 . 5/23/2012
I can't believe I'd missed this one for five years. This is nothing short of poetic in its beauty. I can't claim to know much about the samurai spirit but this is my vision of it. And to have so perfectly blended the intense, spiritual way of the samurai with the whimsical, endearing characters of Azumanga Daioh is nothing short of spectacular. Bravo. I'd put this right up there alongside the best Azumanga fanfiction out there.
Sorflakne chapter 15 . 6/30/2010
Easily among the top three best A.D. stories I've read. Don't know what to say that hasn't been said already, but it was cool that you gave each character their own approach to swordsmanship (and Kung Fu, in Osaka's case) rather than keep it uniform, and the references back to A.D. and to your sources made for a smooth, easy to follow story.

And of course you just had let Tomo have the sword that's probably longer than she is tall :P
spritznar chapter 15 . 5/7/2008
so i was just rereading this story and discovered, to my horror, that i haven't reviewed it. needless to say i wanted to ammend that.

i don't actually have anything useful to say but i thought you might like to know that this is one of my favorite azumanga stories ever (right up there with Fist of the Necoconeco), and after a year and several rereads it's still awesome XD
kttykiwi chapter 5 . 1/10/2008
I went on a 2 hour long youtube binge to find Azumanga amv's after reading this chapter... it was worth it
Chargone chapter 15 . 6/2/2007
... i have a bad habit of reading things at stupid hours of the morning. it's 6:29 am and i just got done with this...

and it is very, very good. only Negative i can find is a few typos. that's Impressive.

i had a little trouble keeping the names straight [that's me, not your story :D] but i loved how well the characters manage to stay in character despite the entire story being... nothing like their 'natural habitat'

also, your fight scenes are really well written, i think.

I've been sorta pacing myself watching Azumanga Daioh. i only got it within the last week and I'm half way through... though... i read the first volume [i think that's how it's organized, i dunno] of the manga... it was in the library.

I'm not a big fan of blood, guts and gore, and if you're stories are mostly like that i probably won't be reading them, but you've certainly earned a spot on my favorite Stories list with this one :)

It's Just. That. Awesome.

wish i was this good at writing :S

feh. i ramble. good job :)
ZeroVX chapter 15 . 5/5/2007
...wow.

This is...all kinds of incredible. Seriously. I am at a loss for words at how good this is!

If this site had nominations for awards or whatever, I'd definitely tell them about this beauty.

In response to the n00b who reviewed previously, I am, again, at a loss for words. Do you have the slightest clue how much of an ass you just made of yourself?

In fact, why did you even say anything? If this anime is a waste

of time, why did you bother reviewing this story?

Oh, just blew your mind, didn't I?

You didn't even read the story, did you? You just popped on here to try and piss someone off, didn't you?

Here's a plan:log off, turn off the computer, chuck it out the window, then go get a job at McDonalds, or something. Leave those of us with brainpower alone.

Whew! That felt good.

A Gentleman Of Leisure chapter 15 . 4/27/2007
Fantastic. Amazing. Utterly brilliant. I think this may indeed be the best Azu-D story here at Maybe anywhere.

Obviously a labour of love, I can see and understand all the hard work that has clearly gone into the background research. I also love the little reffs directly back to Azu-D itself, and the 'Sakaki's severed head trick' at the end was just plain out-and-out wicked!

Long live our favourite seven.

Sunder the Gold chapter 15 . 4/27/2007
Are you sure about that "Christian 'either/or'" thing? Last I checked, the Bible talks quite a bit about multiple spiritual beings besides God/Okamisama/The Great Spirit. The views of other faiths really are a little more compatible with Judeo-Christianity than most would believe. The Bible says there ARE other kami and they are significant forces in the world. It just also says every kami is a creature made by and lesser than Okamisama, and while some kami are good and loyal, others are fallen rebels.

Though perhaps you meant that many Christians and non-Christians have been confused on the point, which is sadly true.

In any case, this is a GREAT story. Loved all the references to the original series as well as the other stuff.
SilverTurtle chapter 15 . 4/27/2007
Loved it.
ironrat chapter 1 . 4/26/2007
Well that ended nicely, glad you did not kill off sweet, sensitive Miss Sakaki. You write this stuff faster than I find time to read it and I hope you keep on writing.
RandomlyRandomness chapter 14 . 4/26/2007
...Did you realese all your stress in this chapter? I mean, Tomo blurting out she loves Tomo, Chihiro puching Tomo in the face, and having that cat thing be a part of a royal family? Well it was funny at the end.

Ha, I finally see the crossover with Samurai Champloo, I need to pay better attention. And was that Techu: Wrath of Heaven meant to be a nod towards the game?
viki chapter 14 . 4/26/2007
Wonderful story. Despite the alternative universe setting, the characters still have their original quirks and mannerisms from the canon source.

And the references to other series were done well; no heavily smashing it over the reader's head.

The Seven samurai reference was also full of WIN.
ManWithBag chapter 14 . 4/26/2007
Wow. I haven't even finished yet and...wow. Let me say the 'If we’re seven samurai, directed by Kurosawa, we’re sure to win!' line is the most beautiful piece of dramatic comedy I have ever read.
SilverTurtle chapter 13 . 4/24/2007
What? Sakaki dies? No! And where was Chiyo in all that arresting business? Answers, few and far between. Ah well. Another excellent chapter! I await your next.
